It Is Not Always Farangs Fault

I see on forum here that anytime a Thai has conflict or is unfriendly with farang, most people say it is farang's fault. This is not true. it is sometimes true. I have business and have good relations with Thais here as well as farang. However, there are times when I was treated in unfriendly manner when it was not my fault. Some people are just plain unfriendly wherever you go. Some pople are just plain bad also, whether Thai, farang or anything else. But it gets old when people say every time farang has problem with Thai, farangs say "What did you do? You must have done something wrong." These are the same people who, when someone is raped or mugged, they blame the victim. Of course if you smile at people first, they smile at you back. But I see every day some Thai people all smiles with someone and as soon as someone walks away, they say how much they hate that person. Back home these people are called phonies.

I love Thailand and intend to live here rest of my life if I can, but it is Thailand not fantasyland. The fact is many Thai people have helped me and been kind to me, but I have done more for Thai people than they have done for me. Mostly because I am in a better position financially. But look at who does most of the charity work and supports the aid and relief projects. It is farangs. I never condone people who are racist towards Thais or anyone, but sometimes it seems the ones most racist towards farangs are the other farang. I do not feel superior because I am a farang, but I also am not ashamed or guilty because I am not from Thailand.

I agree completely. I too tire of farang always insisting we must play the good guest and ignore all the bad things we see and hear. I do not consider myself a "guest" but a resident as I have a business, Thai wife and daughter and have chosen to live here. This is a nice place but like everywhere has it's good and bad you must deal with.

What are you talking about? Who automatically blames falangs? You mean the apologists? Who on earth listens to them? :) I instinctively assume the Thais are at fault, can't help it. Day after day of Thais trying to run crap on me makes it instinct, but I try to look at each situation from all angles and get to the truth, but can't fight my first impulse from being my first impulse, I've been conditioned.

Yes,

We live here and we like it, but it seems foolish to be blind to its flaws. Fair is fair. Doesn't matter where you are or who you are. Fair is always just fair, anything less and someone is shining you on. Up to you if you want to live like that. Just don't be angry at those who chose a different standard.

dam_n, hard not to get biblical on a thread like this.

Amen

There are idiots in every culture, from every background and country.

I feel less sympathy for the idiots from my own culture as they have had every opportunity (or more opportunity) to know better. So in a lot of cases, when they get into trouble in a case when they 'should know better' I do not feel sympathetic.

However, I see that over here there are many people (Thai and Western) who are very creative when it comes to pilfering a little extra for themselves.

Almost as if the unwritten law is - 'You will get screwed over to the amount you let yourself get screwed over'..

Blame is the similar, by sticking up for myself, I find very little of the brown sticky stuff rolling my way...

The part about many Thai people helping you....

I would say 9 times out of 10 Thai people only help others and are "nice" to others just incase they need them for something later on. Or they feel like they owe them because that person has helped them in the past (or has helped their mom or dad or something like that..). I've been told this by MANY of my Thai friends when I ask them if they hate/can't stand someone, why do they fake being nice to them, or still talk to them??

Correct!

A woman told me the reason why she does things for the kids in her area is because when she gets older and needs something in the future, she wants them to help her. Almost as if the saying "it's nice to be nice" is not in the vocabulary. Nothing seems to be done without expecting something done in return.

Called Naam Jai I believe...

And I've heard this many times before... Not being nice because that's how we should be, but being nice because we may get niceties in return.

It Is Not Always Farangs Fault

yes it it

i mean have u seen the people they let in this country ?

They, the Thai's let in no one, they have no choice, its not even their decision

no say

no power

Thailand is basically a colony of the west, run, controled, dictated to.

It's whole existence is that of the west.

they, the thai's are unable to stop anyone who wants to come in from doing so, and has enough money from coming in will get in

I have seen people due to my prison work who have been kicked out many time's in bar's on sukumvit.

One embassy man said his country would much prefer them out here than at home, less problems for them, and will do nothing to change this.

I know of one man who was escorted to the airport put on a flight to UK, got off, and was back within a few month's.

May I suggest you refrain from drinking in said bars on Sukhumvit prior to getting on TV and writing tripe like this...during your prison work which side of the bars were you on ?

Suggest as you feel necessary- it will only make you look foolish, or I should say, more foolish...I have never had a drink of alcohol in my life- next failed attempt please..

And my prison work?

Well, apart from being part of a group that supply the most books to foreign inmates, and overturned a rule in pattya jail that banned English books for some time I have been on the other side. And many other things I hope are positive.

You actually there you have me. I have been on both side's.

Once here for punching a policeman. That cost me a few days in a lock up, a cartoon of cigarette's and a bottle of whiskey.Well worth it.

Whilst there I saw a very young lady, almost a girl with a baby.

I inquired as to her circumstance's and was told, quite matter of factually that her husband was a well know crook who the police could not catch. So they grabbed her and held her as a sort of ransom

A few call's got her released.

What do you doubt?

Yes, we can debate the control issue- I was being very general, that was my error and actually I was quoting a very high ranking diplomat from a country I greatly respect, and love, but has not always done things I agree with.

To quote this person;

" we control Thailand".

I doubt however he would like me giving out the name so on this I can be accused of whatever one wishes. I am sure you can guess which country this person represented.

Do you honestly, truly believe that anyone with the necessary money/contact's can be prevented from re-entering this country?

look, search, explore, ask question's.

It's all out there if one looks. Look not only for what is out there- but what was out there and is now banned- and ask - why?

Here's one to start with. Just one.......Try to get hold of a book written apx 20-40 year's by a brit called "The devil dicuss"

About the investigation of the kings older brother death, a western police unit was called in.

The head investigator was a top investigator and saw everything despite a attempt to make a acceptable story.

They found out all the facts- then told " get out, that not what we want the people to hear" if not, why ban the book?

It's one of the 500 odd book's banned here...why?

Does anyone anyone honestly the line given out? If so, dream on- no wonder so much stay hidden.

This book open up so many other avenue's.

Like why does the west have so much leverage over Thailand.

Is it because the west can prove many things which would make the establishment lose so much face that it has so much leverage.

Read it before asking me <deleted> again and form your own opinion.
