Could Not Get A 7 Day Extension After 30 Day Extension On A Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Happened today: could not get a 7 day re-extension on a tourist Visa. They had already given a 30 day extension and they told that only one extension was possible.

This was in Samui.

Advice was to either do a visa run or just overstay and pay 500 baht per day at the Bangkok Aiport once leaving the country. Thai police wouldnt be likely to lock up overstaying foreigners during these times.

The information was proven out of date, I hope you could update it:

"Additional extension:

Normally, the Immigration will extend your Tourist visa once again following the initial 30 day extension for an additional 7 days. Fee 1,900 baht. "

It may not be out of date, perhaps you just need to try a different immigraion office. If that's not possible, I would do a border run and avoid the overstay.

Technically, extensions have always been at the discretion of the Immigration office/officer. There has been no publicized official change to rules forbidding 7-day extensions after a 30-day extension.

As suggested, a different office might be more amenable. Or perhaps there's other issues not mentioned by the OP that resulted in the denial of the 7-day extension.

cyprean, did the documents you presented to the immigration officer include a ticket for a flight out of Thailand within seven days? This is a regular requirement at the immigration offices that normally allow an additional seven-day extesnsion.

As was mentioned, this additional extension is “normally” given, but Samui has a reputation of being outside the norm.

30 days on a tourist visa ?

Are you married to a thai if so show your wedding cert and they will give you 60 days automatically if required otherwise a trip over the border is required :)

An entry on a tourist visa can not be extended beyond 90 days.

extension of tourist visa, police order 777/2551:

2.4 In the case of tourists:

Permission will be granted for a period of not more than 30 days at a time but not exceeding 90 days in total, counting from the entry date.

Of course the 7 day extension is not really an extension, but time they give you while they consider a request.
