May 14, 201016 yr This is a bit of LONG term planning. You might have heard that us Chiang Mai folks have a little local problem every March? Well next year I have decided that I am definately going to escape it. I don't want to spend a month paying hotel rates, so can any of you locals down there suggest something like a furnished house rental? I would need two bedrooms, and a few comforts such as air con. Beyond that though nothing fancy is required. Would need to be in a built up area as we would be dependent on taxis/public transport. Thanks for any replies. Edited May 14, 201016 yr by KhunDave
May 14, 201016 yr What kind of budget ??? Almost any multi bedroom house for short term rental is going to be more expensive than hotel / guesthouse.
May 14, 201016 yr Author What kind of budget ??? Almost any multi bedroom house for short term rental is going to be more expensive than hotel / guesthouse. Really?? I guess I'm just out of touch with the local market down there. I've done the same thing in Cha Am - three bedroom house for 3000Bt per week. It was a bit "Thai Style" - which I'm fine with - but had air-con bedrooms, and some simple furniture. Would you say that that kind of arrangement is not available on Phuket?

Well maybe theres something empty anyway for rent and an owner mad keen who would take a couple of weeks rent.. But in general no I would say thats not a figure that gets short term rentals actually on the market as such, eg the day / week rent stuff. Then again with this low season who knows.
May 15, 201016 yr You needn't pay 'hotel rates', even in a hotel! Most hotels will negotiate a huge discount (to be paid upfront), as much as 50%, if you negotiate a one month rate. Not the same as houses who understandably don't want the hassle of short term tenants on just one property.
May 15, 201016 yr You never know in March next year they might rip your arm off for 3k a week. There are 2 vacant houses next to me that have been up for rent for months now. In the past they have only stayed vacant a few days.
