‘Food Spy’ network built

BANGKOK: -- A workshop on ‘Food Spy’, designed for promoting hygienic and safe food awareness among Thai consumers was held here today by the Ministry of Public Health and members of three popular radio stations in Bangkok and outlying areas.

After presiding over the opening of the workshop, Deputy Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said food safety was one of the national agendas undertaken by the governemnt to achieve within 2017.

Under the food safety program, food sold at local restaurants and markets must be clean and delicious, food must be fresh, safe, and obtain a certificate issued by the ministry's Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In order to achieve a success for the program, people must render their assistance in monitoring restaurants or food shops which sell unhygienic or dirty food, he said.

So far members of the radio stations have already reported more than 100 items of unhygienic food to the ministry, and its officials have already inspected them, he added.
