How To Get From Sukhumvit To Salaya Campus And Back?

Featured Replies

I'm going to a concert at Mahidol Salaya concert at 4pm today. The choices are 515 bus from Victory Monument or taxi to Wong Wien Yai and then Salaya shuttle bus.

Anyone got any ideas? I heard Victory Monument is jammed and it would be difficult to get to from Sukhumvit, plus the bus might not be running regularly. On the other hand, a taxi to Wong Wien Yai shouldn't be difficult, but what about catching one back at 6.30pm?

I would not even think about Victory Monument now, I just got back from Salaya this morning.. Have a lot of traffic going out of Bangkok at the moment and you will not have a problem with taxi after your concert. Wish I new about it, I would have stayed another night. Is it at the Mahidol University?

Cheers

Thanks. Yes, its at Mahidol. Details at http://www.thailandphil.com/ . They changed the soloist but the concert is still on. I figure if the cellist can come all the way from the Czech Republic to play I should at least make an effort to get there.

would suggest staying at home tonight. The situation out there is unprediactable and scary and definately not worth putting your life in danger for a concert. I know that there are road blocks and army stations at V monument. I travelled across bangkok yesterday over the protests on the fly over and i was terrifed. You have the right to make your own decision obviously but i recccomend staying safe and staying at home. Take care

Well, I made it back OK and enjoyed the concert. 135 baht each way by taxi and a shuttle bus from Wong Wien Yai to Salaya. I could have done without the red taxi and the red radio station cursing the government all the way back though. As we crossed over Rama 4 I could see masses of people down there but they didn't seem to be moving.
