Am i reading what im reading, or is my eyes just full of tears. Is there actually some idiots on this forum who advice snipers to shoot people. I guess you are some of the 15 procent elite of this country. Shame shame. Everything should be done to save life in this situation.

exactly, now send a tweet to jutaporn to call off his goons that keep attacking the army barricades.

while i am here, is anybody else wondering why the topic of this thread is 3 killed when clearly that isnt accurate anymore?

i appreciate that the daily AFP "News" is the starter of all these threads but surely there has been additional stories filed today that are a better reflection of whats going on in the last few hours?

Yeah, its just me against the world. Maybe you need to read my post again. Both protests should have been stopped right away. The yellow siege was successful - one of the main guys was made Foreign Minister. This set a precedent. The army and police shouldn't have taken sides. They should have enforced the law. They didn't. When the reds came out, they didn't bother to enforce the law either. What would happen to protesters at LAX in the US or in Times Square who refused to leave? They would be arrested right away regardless of where the sympathies of the security forces lay. Because the law is the law. But not here.

The yellow siege wasn't "successful". The yellows were there to stop Somchai from landing (forget where from). The whole yellow protest (8 months) was to stop the PPP from changing the constitution to get Thaksin off his crimes.

The court decision disbanding the PPP was going to happen anyway, with or without the yellows.

Let me try another angle. They just gave 6 months in jail to a number of protesters. Good. Now how many yellows did jail time after taking over the international airport? This makes it easy to convince people that there is a double standard.

What were the laws and who was the government at the time of yellow protests?

Not double standards. Different situations.

I am not saying that the yellow protests were not wrong. I am just pointing out the facts of the situation.

Very sad pictures :)

l20h.jpg

Forgot to add some information to the picture

7 killed and 101 injured Nine people are in critical conditions including a 10 year old boy.

With many families on the protest site and the indiscriminating shooting by the Thai military it's a wonder that no child has been shot.

However last night a 10 year old boy was seriously shot in the abdomen when the van he was traveling in failed to slow down at a check-point.

Source: Daily News Thailand

Misinformation!!!!! That 10 year old boy was not in that van. He was on a foot path and was lying down when the incident happened, in addition was another person injured--a taxi driver. The oy was at the site and a solder told the boy to go home unfortunately he decided not to follow that advise, then the van came speeding into the scene and the rest is history.

However it happened I hope he gets better :D

Lets hope no more children are injured

afraid to inform u he's dead already

Anyone else hearing there are people on the platform and the tracks at BTS Chitlom?

Just spoke to my Mrs. who is station supervisor at BTS National Stadium.

Red Shirts have entered Chidlom, Siam and Rajadamri stations and are in the control rooms there. They forced the supervisors to leave.

There are no BTS staff at those three stations now, only protesters.

I thought there was an army in those areas? They obviously do a good job protecting strategic points.

are we to presume that these individuals were just shot by the authorities for being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

I doubt they'd just popped out to buy a packet of cigs!

Nevertheless the picture we see on this thread is shocking.

All this nonsense could and should have been stopped by now. All they had to do is secure the area.

Sheer incompetence.

Yes, that's 'all'. How might you suggest they secure the area without and violence erupting? These damned reds came to Bangkok looking for one thing - a bloody fight and, very unfortunately, that is exactly what they have got on their hands. They had a deal, they should have taken it and gone home, taking those poor innocent people with them. Any ensuing violence is 100% of their will and their making.

Well you can't now, as the cat is well and truly out the bag.

In a hostage situation, the decision to storm is made when all else has failed, and you have to then reason that there really is only one course of action for the greater good, how many lives you will save as opposed to how many might be lost.

The tanks should have rolled through the barricades ages ago. No doubt there would have been some loss of life, but the chances are most would flee for their life ( I speak from experience I legged it away from Pratunam yesterday at the sound of gunfire). But you coud drop down hundreds of canisters of tear gas, shower the area with noise and water or simply send troops in en mass.

I'd assume once the main area is secured and hopefully the thousands of relatively peaceful demonstrators dispersed, the gloves could come off in dealing with the hardcore.

I'm not supporting this action by the way, you just asked me how it's done, to summarise, the same way every other half competent force does it.

(believe it or not I am broadly behind the red cause up to a point).

I was also behind them at the start but I now see them for what they are. There needs to be heavy forces sent in to break up the demonstrators camp, it can't be that hard to do as there have already been many deaths and it may indeed prevent many more people from dying. I just with the Government would have the balls to do it.

Standard Geneva convention rules of war

The soldiers had no idea who was inside or the vehicles purpose

Normal logic when a soldier holding a gun says stop. you stop

For gods sake.. Do you people not read ??

He wasnt inside the vehicle.. Troops shooting hit at the vehicle hit bystanders.

... What are the "bystanders" doing there anyway? They are being told to GO AWAY but don't. They want to "watch". Then, when they get shot, fuel is given to the red idiots and their equally ignorant sympathizers to justify their accusations that the troops are "firing indiscriminately" at "innocent" bystanders.

Pathetic.

I concur 100%! For those unhappy with the governments action (or, more appropriately, "inaction") during the yellow maniacs airport stint, take your complaints to Somchai, a red backer. It was his government at the time.

My condolences to those who have died.My condolences to their families. My condolences to the business people who are no longer in business. My condolences to the Thai reputation as a happy friendly place to come that has been callously killed by the display at hand.

Sadness fills my heart as I see and hear.

All are being damaged by this.It is not longer a Red/Yellow fight. It is no longer a poor vs rich fight. It is not about winning anymore.

It is about what is right and what is wrong.Where has the humanity gone?...................

..................................

Humanity HA !

Read some history :)

I have read a lot of history.I am talking about the people now who are supposedly educated and have a Buddhist way of life and a peaceful nature.I am talking about the basic humanity that all need to be aware of. We have had patches of humanity shown at various times. This is one time when it really does need to be displayed.

I trust you understand the concept of compassion. Practicing it randomly can have great affect.

Light and Love to all

Once again. Different government. Different situation.

For the army to be able to go in, there has to be agreements and laws to protect the army.

Were those agreements there between the army and the PPP? Were the PPP going to protect the army from damage, injury or death caused if they cleared the protestors?

So not double standards.

They are not fighting for democracy as Thailand already has a democratically elected government. Look to the UK for what a coalition means.

They are fighting for the return of a PM who killed far more than have died here and who once famously said, "Democracy is not my aim".

Do you reemember that?

As for nazis, please look up Crystal Night and you'll see who the reds model themselves on. As for their leader, watch some of hitler's speeches and then tell me who the reds' fuhrer models himself on

If Thailand had anything approaching an education system and a 1% aware of the world population this would not happen. SAdl;y, being unable to think for themselves, and having no knowledge to refer to, Thais believe what they are told.

As always, the reds are being fed a load of lies.

Democracy? BS

What election was that?

Please inform us at what election was this government formed?

The Abhisit government was NEVER elected!

There is only one way to settle this.

Free elections NOW. Or is the Abhisit government too afraid?

A free election would see a landslide to the reds.

A very sad time for Thailand and its people, Rest in peace those who have died on all sides of the fighting. It is a shame that it has come to this, and I fear that this is just the beginning but unfortunately for the UDD I fear the worse is to come. :)

RIP all who have died.

That's the situation that the reds have brought on Bangkok.

ThaivisaNews: Update: Police apartment at Lumpini, injuried have been taken to Bumrungrad Hospital. Five people including 1 child.

But apparently the reds launched a M79 grenade at the police barracks at Lumpini. Injuring a child. Launched at housing .... terrorist action. Not attacking soldiers or police, not defending themselves, launched at people's apartments.

If the Reds want political reform they should go through the correct channels.

Please remove these red shirts so people can get back to their normal lives.

"By any means necessary"

Say that to Sondhi & Sonthi.

It get's worse.

The "Plan" (if you can call it such a thing) is for when the protesters decide to flee, they (the military) will leave Rama 1 open and let them flee up past MBK and National Stadium. This is what the Mrs. is REALLY scared of, because obviously a number of the fleeing protesters will want to get up the stairs and into the relative safety of the BTS station at National Stadium.

When I said to her "well surely the army will protect the stairs somehow, razor wire, sandbags, anything basically to stop anyone leaving the 'funnel' they want to create down on Rama 1?"

Mrs reply: "I asked the army that who are stationed there and they said no, it's not their responsibility".

I f_cking despair sometimes. She has been coming home shaking like a leaf; petrified.

She's just sent me a text: The army can't guarantee her safety once she leaves the confines of the station (fair enough I suppose), so she is sleeping on the floor inside the station...AGAIN!

I know there are many arguments going on here, and I don't really care who is EXACTLY right or EXACTLY wrong, I am f_cking sick of reading all about it. All I know is what this is doing to my own loved one.

where exactly is your proof that this poor person was shot by the army ?????

It would be lucky for Thailand if this guy is killed by the army.

If not (killed by the army), this mean Thailand is in a civil war, where one group is killing the other group. Lets prey that this does not happen.

The reds were killing yellows in 2008. The reds killed some local residents in 2009.

This isn't civil war. This is just a group of armed thugs holding a city hostage.

It would be good if CRES set-up some kind of checkpoint or processing center where "red shirts" can surrender themselves and peacefully leave the area. Whether or not they are criminally charged for one thing or another might be a different story for the justice system to sort out. In my humble opinion, if they choose to leave the area they should be offered some kind of leniency.

Perhaps the army should broadcast some kind of counter-propaganda? Letting the people inside the red zone know that there is a way out of this. Allow them to disarm themselves (rocks, sticks, incendiary devices, whatever might be perceived as a weapon), then simply walk out of the zone to a place where they can be processed and sent back home (or wherever it is they deserve to go).

Somehow this current stranglehold strategy is only hardening the resolve of the mob. A way out for them might help diffuse things.

There are plenty of places for the reds to get out of there, without even surrendering to the army.

The women and children could walk out of their in 5 minutes past MBK or the other direction down Suhkumvit.

Surrendering = straight into jail for 6 months. No pardon. I think these lowly educated will take their chances.

After the last ELECTION, the party in power was banned for electrol fraud (they got caught on video, OK?). Some of the surviving parties formed a coalition government from the remaining, legally elected members....and that is what the situation is today....I know it's not your fault, it's hard to read properly through the bottom of a glass! :)

I just witnessed an armed masked man fire an assault rifle at soldiers from sapahn childom at the red's barricade on chid lom.

No doubt about it. It was not firecrackers or rockets, it was an army style riffle.

He hid behind the tires and fired down the street and then sped away on a motorbike with a friend. Both my wife and i witnessed.

The reds are definitely armed.

There never was a question about the reds being armed.

Correct. There never was a question about the reds being armed.

CRES said they will never shoot women and children.

See, no women and children is dead.

So CRES is telling the truth.
