I think I can clear up some of this. My friend and I went to immigration on Chaeng Wattana yesterday. I took a taxi to go home, on our way home we saw smoke. We asked the taxi driver where the smoke was coming from. He then stated he was a red shirt and took out his red shirt bandanna and said that they were burning down the main AIS tower. My friend's AIS or 12Call sim card did not have any signal. I now give credence to what the taxi driver said based on what all of the rest of you are saying. I just find it interesting that 12Call used to be Thaksin's phone company.

Burning down a cell site would not cause calls to go to wrong numbers at all. Seems very coincidental that it's only you and your girlfriend having the same fault.

I would try the obvious stuff like switching off and back on to try logging the handset onto a different cell (although there's no way of telling if this has worked or not on the phone) and maybe resetting the settings on the handset - could be a fault on the DTMF tones causing the network to pick up the wrong number.

Have you also tried dialling the number manually? Might be worth a shot, also if you could get loan of another handset you can eliminate the phone fault possibility.

All mobile networks were having call overload problems yesterday in Bangkok. It sometimes took 5 or 6 tries to get calls through and sometimes switching errors caused wrong numbers such as you experienced. Too many people trapped inside with nothing to do but call friends, family ect.
