Exporting Herbal Supplements

Featured Replies

I am interested in exporting small quantities (100 - 1,000 capsules per shipment) of Thai herbal supplements to the U.S. I've exported gift items and antiques, but have no experience with food products. Does anyone have information regarding the regulations and restrictions imposed by U.S. customs? Do I need apply through a specific regulatory body? Would small quantities be an advantage for avoiding bureaucratic red tape?

I could imagine yourself running into problems with the FDA even though they may be described as "supplements". :)

You will need an export permit from the FDA, which is not easy to come by.

Contact them and ask. The Kaset (Department of Agriculture) also have a say in this matter if the supplements come from plants.
