Criminal Convictions.

Featured Replies

G'day.

Just a comment I would like to make. As someone who has covictions I was wondering if I would have any problems trying to move permantly to Thailand.

My last conviction was in January this year. I pleaded guilt to a charge of assult with intent to injury. Maximum sentence is 3 years. It was a accident but now I have this against me also.

Prior to that my last one was in 2000 for brench of protection orders. There was nothing violent but the stupid law here in NZ says that you can be in the same street & brench it or driving down the same road. You don't have to see them. They see you & your done. A stupid law.

I get sentence in June for the lastest one. I was in Thailand last year & fell in love with place. I also fell in love with a thai national. I so want to be with them. We plan to start a business up in Phuket.

I have been giving him money to help him. I want to start a new life. I hate my country because I can't get ahead with these convictions where I believe I can over there.

Please be gentle to me. Truly I'm not a bad person. Can anyone help.

Sawatdee kaa.

A local NZ police records check is required for a non-immigrant "O-A" visa issued by the Thai embassy/consulate in NZ. Beyond that unless you are in an international data base of criminals (INTERPOL) it is unlikely to concern the Thai authorities.

However, for a non-O visa based on retirement you don't need a police check and also not for the anual extensions. Note that some embassies only want to issue a O-A visa for reason of retirement. I don't know about New Zealand. if they don't give a non-O, you can apply in Australia (Perth or Brisbane) or ain a neighbouring country, like Laos.

Thailand is not the place to run away from your problems

Marriage or retirement visas do not require background checks, work permits do.

Apply for a Pardon in your country it will give you a clean record for the future.

Work permits dont require a background check, only required if work permit is for being a teacher, and dont believe this requirement is uniformly applied

Correct it is not uniformly applied. I have renewed my work permit 3 times and have never been asked for a background check, not even a Thai background check after being here 6 years.

Assault with intent to injure an accident?

:)

never mind, thought better of it
