Something Happening On Chaengwattana Rd.

Police and soldiers have stopped a pickup truck in the middle of the eastbound lanes of Chaengwattana Road just opposite Central Plaza Chaengwattana. Soldiers and police were crowded around the driver side door, so it was difficult to see, but it was obvious they were struggling with the driver trying to force him out. Finally he was pulled through the group of police and troops. He appeared to be unconscious and it looked like he was bleeding from the back of his head, as a soldier was holding what appear to be a white towel to the back of his head that appeared to be bloodied. The man was put into the back of a police truck with two soldiers and driven away.

They seem to have a particular interest in something in the cab of the truck, as they were all crowded around it after the man was removed, taking pictures. The back of the truck was opened twice, but I wasn't able to get a view of what was inside.

Was the guy awake when they put him in the car or dead?

We weren't allowed to get close enough to see. He definitely didn't look conscious anymore when they finally got him out of the truck, but we didn't hear any gun shots or anything. I reckon he got a bit of a clubbing for resisting, but like I said we couldn't clearly see because there was a crowd of both police and troops around the driver side door. There was definitely a struggle of some sort before they pulled him out.

If anyone else knows about this incident and has some information, do share. Curious as to what was happening.

Going by the discovery of 5 car bombs over the last 2 days, I could hazard a guess, but we may never know. If it was a bomb, the govt may not want to panic the public esp when victory has been declared.

Agree with the last poster.

Moving forward instead of some rent a cops checking people half heartedly when they enter the mrt, and not at all when they enter bts, I suggest (strongly) that they have permenent security forces at all stations and not just metal detectors going by all the C4 they are finding in the city!.

I doubt it was a bomb. They all stood around it casually, allowed traffic to pass all around the vehicle (it was sitting in the middle lane of three lanes), and only made an effort to keep people at a certain distance, but not at what would be considered a safe distance for a bomb. It was towed away from the scene later. I reckon it was probably weapons or tyres or something of the sort in the back, but nothing that was an immediate threat to the people surrounding the vehicle. They seemed more interested in what was in the cab of the truck than what was in the back. We didn't see them take any pictures of what was in the back, but they took numerous pictures of the cab while he was still in it and after they took him out.

I'm also trying to figure out why they singled this guy out. Were they tipped off and expecting him? I just wonder because no other trucks were stopped, but they were all equally difficult/impossible to see into.

On a similar note, I saw a police tow truck with a similar truck in tow this morning while I was on the way to another office in Ngamwongwan. Seems they're still trying to bring something into the city the police and soldiers don't approve of.
