Motorbike Ride Chiang Mai To Louang Namtha (laos)

Featured Replies

Has anybody ever done it, or does anybody know how long it would take? Im looking to ride a Kawasaki 125cc motorcross bike from Chiangmai to Chiang Rai, stay one night. To Chiang Khong (Laos border) stay one night. To Louang Namtha, stay one night. Finally then onto Mo Han (Chinese border) I have done a few bike trips through Laos before, so i'm aware of the roads (or lack of them) I'll be doing the trip in November to avoid too much rain. Anyone got any ideas on a timescale? 5 days?

Best is to have a look at the GT Rider forum http://www.gt-rider.com/thailand-motorcycle-forum/ where you will find a lot of information on riding motorbikes in Thailand and Laos and the paperwork required to cross the border at Chiangkhong.

Well, if you're spending a night in CR, CK and Luang Namtha, that's 3 nights. Boten/Mohan would be day 4. Sounds pretty simple. You could do it in less.

If its a true motocross bike( i,e no headlight,no indicators, no kickstand) you might have issues getting it over the border, unless you have found a way to get it registrated or you know a friendly border crossing agent.

Good luck though.

Thanks for that. Wasn't aware that would be an issue. You've saved me alot of time and probably money...
