Bangkok Immigration Open Again Today 24 May

Announcement. Immigration Division1 services only for foreigners residing in Bangkok will be opened on 24th May,2010.

at 3 offices located as follows;

1. Immigration Division1 , Soi SuaPlu , Satorn Rd. (Only special Labor of three Nationalities Loas , Cambodia and Mynmar)

2. One Stop Center for Visa and Work Permits located at Chamchuri Square Buliding , Phayathai Rd. (Only the specific law)

3. The Govenment Complex , Chaengwattana Rd.

For foreigners who stay in Bangkok and wishing to extend their temporary stay and their visa will be expired on 17th - 21st May 2010, the fine for overstaying of those five days will be excepted if only they contact the Immigration Division1 on 24th May,2010.

Immigration Division 1 is responsible for immigration services as follows;

Service for Visa Issuing (NON.L-A) , extension of stay permit and notification of address every 90 days , provided only for legalized special Labor of three Nationalities Loas , Cambodia and Mynmar residing in Bangkok.

As the meassage says, you will not be fined for overstay if you have an overstay because of the immigration closure, but you must visit immigration today.

Great news they are open again...Bangkok Immigration is going to be one BUSY place on Monday and probably the rest of the week. And I have no doubt we will hear some horror stories (balanced and one-sided) of what and how immigration did to a person regarding an overstay, visa extension, extension of stay, etc. Hopefully, people will keep their cool and when the dust settles there will be many more good reports than bad reports.

What one day to lodge - and only if they are in the five day over? Great Thailand - another goodwill gesture to assist public perception. But its all about getting more baht from the foreigners.

Why not show good intent and do the right thing? Allow a free overstay for the huge inconvenience of being caught up in Thai politics when people spent good money getting here and then had the dreams shattered (and burnt). And that should be good for a month considering this has been going on for two!
