Witholding Tax

Recommended Posts

I have some money in a fund in a bank in Jersey.

A while ago they started to deduct witholding tax from the dividends

that were otherwise re-invested.

After writing to them the bank no longer stop the tax at source and said

they will inform the Thai tax authorities.

The money will never be brought into Thailand.

But can I reclaim previous years' witholding tax from the Jersey tax authorities?

I am from the UK but have lived in Thailand 10 years. I own nothing in the UK and

the tax people there consider me non-resident.

Jersey shouldn't withhold tax at source unless you are a EU resident. What was your address on file with them? I doubt you can get any back since it has probably already been remitted to the UK tax authorities.

You should be able to get the tax back. I had the same problem and informed the Bank that I am an expat. They just gave me a form to fill in for the Uk Tax authorities and all my tax was returned to my account once it had been processed. You need to be quick though because the Tax year starts 1 April and they only give you a certain time to claim.
