Fishing Piers In Thailand?

Why is it that they have no fishing piers in Patteya or Chan Buri for the tourists to try salt water angling like back in the states? Before moving here from NC, the beaches all had fishing piers and we caugh plenty of fish from them!!

I think for one thing, the water is so polluted, you wouldn't want to eat anything caught there. I live over on the Adaman Sea. We have a few piers here, now. Never used to. I don't see as many fish here as I used to either. My neighbor is the president of the Rawai Long Thai Boat Assn and he's been here all his life. He said to me recently, things are very bad. The sea is too hot, it kills the coral. I said, I know, I've read about it, and I asked him about the outer islands, he said, same. The sea has been over 90ºF for several months. It causes coral bleaching, it kills it. Plus trawlers netting everything in the sea, hmm. Not good!

salt water fishing where i live in phuket it truly crap!!!

I belive the problem is the Thais will eat anything no matter what size. A few years back we were in Samet and took a day trip around the island, snorkelling etc. At one point we stopped to fish using handlines. Not many people caught anything. But one guy caught a small fish and was happy(nothing wrong with that) But i said through it back and the Thais looked at me as if i was mad. They then kept it and bbq'd for him. My mate also caught something about the same size. But he threw it back. Guess it wont get better until they get some kind of education and start to look at the big picture. But i fear that is to late. :)

Problem with throwing back fish you catch is that they die often. Because of the depth, i have been fishing in the ocean in the south of thailand but i stopped it because almost all fish died. So throwing back was not an option. Besides this point i don't think handlines are a problem because its only a small portion of the fish that is getting caught. Trawlers are a bigger problem.

You're probably right. But here in OZ(probably Uk too) you have minimum sizes you can catch and keep. If caught with something too small you get a big big fine. Maybe if they had something similar in Thailand then the fishing may improve.

Like i said they all die when they come up (if your fishing deep) so it doesn't mater anything at all. And even if they had those rules who is going to enforce them. Even in my country (Holland) the problem is now with Polish people fishing too much and taking all out of the water. There is nobody to check that. Its quite sore for the Dutch fishermen who almost all do catch and release.

I still think normal fishing isn't a big problem on the ocean but big trawlers are.

Same in England but it's wrong to just blame just the Poles. It's all East europeans pretty much. One English guy's banned all east Europeans from his lakes.

Apparently (this is from a Pole) they have a different catch and release policy . If it's small it goes back. Big they eat it.

They eat carp for Christmas dinner believe it or not??? I didn't but was shown a photo.
