Hello Everyone,

My wife and I (early 30s) are planning to stay on Chaweng Beach for five days towards the end of June (June 25 - 30). There is an overwhleming information about hotels on the internet. We'd like to stay a near (walking distance) the central part of Chaweng beach near shops, restaurants, Thai massage places, etc but still in a clean hotel on the beach with quiet rooms. What places can you recommend? Is agoda.com usually the best place to book?

Any other recommendations?

Thanks

Agoda is a good start for booking and I have often found Trip Advisor pretty good for personal reports.

Chaweng beach is pretty long. Anything at the southern end might be a bit far to walk for the things you are looking for. Ditto, anything at the northern tip. Inbetween there are loads of places, and it seems you have discovered that already. :D

Maybe a little more information might help us? What is your budget? Do you really want quiet and homely or do you want conference facilities? Are you likely to be dancing til' dawn? Can you not survive without KFC and Starbucks? :D

To be honest, with a name like 'naturebum' are you sure Chaweng is the right place for you?

Really helped clear things up for you haven't I? :)

itishothere, thanks for your comment!

What is your budget?
Not really set, but probably around USD 100 (THB 3259) a night. Of course it could be less, if it meets the standards (see below). Or more, if there is a good case for it. Money is not so much the issue, but we don't want to waste it either and we do want good value.

The only thing we'd like quiet is the room to sleep at night as we both like sleeping in. We also like it clean. We defintely don't need conference facilities - it's a vacation trip. It would be nice if the hotel/resort had a Thai feeling to it, so not too Western-style. We don't mind the presence of a Starbucks for a coffee or so but we are planning to eat primarily local cusine, hopefully some seafood. Maybe we'll throw in eating at an expat restaurant with European cuisine, but it is defintely not needed. I haven't familiarized myself with the nightlife yet, but if there are clubs/bars that are not overwhelmed with Thai working girls, you can bet we will hit them. Hence the need for a hotel where we can rest.

I figured that might confuse, I do like the nature trips, so we are planning on some snorkeling and backcountry day trips if any of that is available. One doesn't exclude the other though I think. Edited by naturebum

smokie36, thanks!

For beachfront Chaweng Buri is decent value and centrally located.
Thanks.

I see the Chaweng Buri Resort has "Superior" rooms for USD 62 a night and "Deluxe" rooms for USD 75.

I also read about the Chawen Garden Beach Resort on here which has "Superior Doubles" rooms for USD 57 as well as "Garden Bungalows" for USD 86. It sounds tempting to maybe rent one of those "Garden Bungalows".

Which ones would recommend betweens those two hotels and why?

Do I understand correctly that all rooms in those two hotels have AC?

Looking at most of the photos of pretty much any hotel online, it looks like they are just beautiful and spotlessly clean, which sounds too good to be true. So I am trying to get some first-hand knowledge here. Thanks for your time!

I read online that the Green Mango disco seems to be dance place.

I've never stayed at Chaweng Garden so can't advise on that place.

The Deluxe rooms at Chaweng Buri are villa style in a garden setting towards the beach while the cheaper ones are apartment style towards the beach road. Green Mango is a five minute stroll away. The rooms are pleasant service is good and the beachside is a good location with Ark Bar a short walk away.

I've stayed in quite a few on Chaweng beach over the years and this is the one which stands out for me in terms of value for money. :)

smokie36, thanks!

I just booked a Deluxe room of the Chaweng Buri Resort on agoda and I already received the confirmation.

:) Well you are sure to like the music boom boxes emanating from Barracuda Bar and Ark Bar on the beach nearby !

Hope you have a good time in Chaweng! If get thrown out of the hotel, you can always stay in one of my airconditioned "short time" rooms at my bar. No windows but plenty of mirrors and very cheap!!! :):D
