I'm in a bit of a bind and hoping somebody has suggestions. I arrive at the Bangkok airport at 9:30pm with two dogs and a cat. They have all certificates/vaccinations/pet passports and are in good health, so I don't expect any problems. However, at 9:30pm, the import office at the airport will be closed. I'm not sure what to do about that. Is there a service that I can pay for where a vet does the import certificate in advance so I have no trouble? I did that when I traveled to Russia and Vietnam, so maybe there's something similar in Bangkok. Or maybe I can pay overtime to the people at the import office so one of their vets waits for me at the airport?

Any idea who I can call or how to fix this problem? I'm flying on June 14th, so I don't have a lot of time to arrange this.

Hi, if your animals are traveling as excess baggage you will have to ask the veterinarian to come on site: so just overtime to pay. If they travel as cargo, that will be more of a problem as the offices are closed at that time.

Depends where you come from and how the animals are booked through. Cargo is always a nuisance. I just imported a greyhound last month and had to grease a few paws along the way.

They're flying as excess baggage. Cargo freaks me out a bit, so I chose an airline that allowed me to fly them as excess baggage. I'm flying in from Vietnam, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference. Any idea who do I need to contact to get the vet to show up at night? Did you arrange for this yourself or did you have somebody get things organized for you?

Read through the above thread it should help, you should have the import permit prior to arrival regardless of whether the import office is open or not.

This is their email [email protected]

I had to send them by email

1.detail of your dog, sex, breed, age, microchip number

2.adress in thailand and address at origin

3. flight details

4. scanned copies of all vaccinations

5. Photographs of my two dogs

7.copies of your passport.

Before you email call them to say you are emailing, and then after you have emailed call them again to remind them. They can be a bit slow, reluctant answering email and phone so keep on their case.

These are the numbers for the office which is located by baggage reclaim number 8.

Just to add I had all the paper work done perfect, arrived at BKK at 3 pm went to their office they checked all paper work, charged me a small fee and was directed to walk through "goods to declare" at customs. The big fat sweaty man at the customs desk then asked my Thai wife for 2000 baht, the people at the quarantine office had already told us we didn't need to pay any more money, we paid up anyway. I am guessing they would be less likely to ask for a bribe if you are foreign, but my advice would be to pay up if anyone asks.

So doing all the paper work correctly is not a protection against having to pay someone off, and as other posters have written in the other thread many have not bothered with paper work and simply walked out of the airport.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I called the airport office and they were really helpful. Emailed everything on Monday and had the certificate in my inbox this morning. I hope I don't have to pay anybody off, but if it means the difference between quarantine or not, I'm paying. I have all paperwork/certificates in order, so hopefully it will go smoothly.

Must be a change in the necessary steps. I brought 6 years ago a dog in threw Bangkok Airport as excess Baggage, called before the Thai Embassy in my country and was advised, I needed only valid Vaccination and a computerchip in the dog.

Had to pay at Airport 100 Baht. No problem at all.

Just wanted to give an update on this. I made it through customs with no problems whatsoever. I had the import permit and everything in order, so I'm sure that helped. Paid 100 baht per animal at the quarantine office and then was asked for 500 extra for each dog (nothing for the cat) at the customs exit. I thought about fighting it but decided it wasn't worth the trouble. Paid the (less than) 30 dollars and I was on my way.

Oh, and there was no vet check. I walked into the quarantine office while my husband waited outside with the animals. Nobody even looked at them.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips. I'm so relieved that everything went smoothly!

thanx for the update :)) reminds me of when i cme to israel in 1984 with my stafford bull terrier... i had all the papers, forms, three copies, plus one set taped to his flight cage-- everything very proper; nobody even bothered to look at the papers or him (ok, he was slathering foam and looked mean, from the heat and the trip), i actually went up to an official to give him the papers and i was just waved through.... ha! naive i was then, to atually approach an official with paperwork, now i know better...
