June 6, 201016 yr Just wondered how successful this is. Maybe they should do the same in parts of Chaweng?
June 6, 201016 yr pleasant action indeed, FV is a nice place, except increasing too much main stream tourism related products for sale, touts and restaurant prices. Making Chaweng from Starbucks to MacDonalds/Tropical Murphy a walking street would be nice too. Only problem: how can the new and departing hotel guests come to their hotels or to the airport/ferry?
June 6, 201016 yr Author pleasant action indeed, FV is a nice place, except increasing too much main stream tourism related products for sale, touts and restaurant prices.Making Chaweng from Starbucks to MacDonalds/Tropical Murphy a walking street would be nice too. Only problem: how can the new and departing hotel guests come to their hotels or to the airport/ferry? I was thinking the same sort of area in Chaweng. How about golf buggies to ferry between the hotels in the evening? A small inconvenience but would make the place much more pleasant imo.
June 6, 201016 yr I've been down a couple of times and enjoyed it! Got a bustling atmosphere and seemed equally popular with locals and tourists alike. I doubt that it would work the same if it were more often but it seems to be doing OK. And the local hotels have presumably solved the problem of getting people to and from their destinations? I would like the same to happen in Chaweng too. Don't go down there often enough to know where it would be best placed. But, erm, don't do it on a Friday huh pease?
June 6, 201016 yr What local hotels at FV?? Smile House would be the first one on that walk. You underestimate the amount of hotel guests checking in/out during the evening on that long stretch on Chaweng. They carry a lot of luggage too, sometimes there are thunderstorms and heavy rains... June 6, 201016 yr Author Good points. Hotel minivans and taxis only then. I believe it could be achieved with a bit of planning.

June 6, 201016 yr Elevated Plexiglas tubes from/to the resorts from/to the lake road, with belt conveyer and escalators for hotel guests.
June 6, 201016 yr Author Elevated Plexiglas tubes from/to the resorts from/to the lake road, with belt conveyer and escalators for hotel guests. Hang some ropes from the trees on the beach and the tourists can swing from one end to the other Tarzan style.
June 6, 201016 yr getting back to the original topic, nice atmosphere , very busy, however fixed businesses are not at all benefitting from the "walking street", this may or may not change ?? but for the moment seems to be 100s of strolling window shoppers, not a bad idea concept in the first place, hopefully through time it evolves so that all can benefit from this:clap2:,
June 7, 201016 yr It could be, that most potential customers got irritated by the price lists at the restaurants showing prices in huge letters up to 1990 Baht. You don't see that at other places. Prices are high fot average tourists. They expect Thailand to be cheaper. Why is it so expensive there? Are costs for rent more expensive than on Chaweng? Second obstacle are the touts at the restaurants. They don't leave enough freedom to look at the restaurant from the street and at the menu at the entrance. As soon as someone stops to take a look they start to approach. Most Western tourists don't like that. For them it's annoying.
