Govt pushes for hospital upgrades

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Public Health is working to ensure that 1,170 hospitals across the country meet international hospital accreditation standards, as part of the government’s bid to transform Thailand into a regional medical hub.

Today Deputy Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said that the Hospital Accreditation (HA) scheme aimed to develop three types of health centre – general hospitals, health promotion hospitals, and centres offering rehabilitation for drug abusers.

The government, which is touting Thailand as a regional healthcare centre, hopes that 1,170 private and public sector hospitals will gain HA certification. To date 130 have gained HA status

The Waiting Game

The NHS needs to improve its referral and deferral

The case of Rachel K, a road accident victim who was told by King’s College Hospital that she would have to wait up to 80 weeks for an NHS brain scan, illustrates the management problems that still dog the health service.

As revealed by The Times, Ms K. was upset not only by the inordinately long timeframe to discover what is causing her dizzy spells and reduced vision, but also by the handwritten scribble on the hospital’s letter that gave the telephone number of its private clinic where she could have the procedure carried out in two weeks :o

That should be easy - just add a coffee franchise, a book store and a hamburger stand right next to the florist and tell the docs to think of a fancy new name for aspirin. :o

That's what we did in the U.S. got a lot of people to go to the hospitals.

That's why many sued the hospitals and doctors for malpractice.

O f course, we like to blame other people for our problems. We have a triple by-pass than eat at the McDonalds in the hospital and wash it all down with a four shot venti mocha from Starbucks than when the heart stops beating again we scream malpratice.

I don't think fast food chains should be anywhere near a hospital, however, people shouldn't be so quick to sue over everything, it's made health care in this country beyond the realm of reasonable.
