Employment Ended: How Long To Leave?

Featured Replies

I've just been told that the rules have changed regarding how long you can stay in the country when employment (legal with work permit) has finished. Previously it was 7 days, apparently Phuket immigration are saying that it's now 1 day, can anyone confirm?

If it's true, 1 day isn't very long to organise your affairs and prepare to leave.

What do you have a Visa or an Extension? This is the important thing.

If you are on extension of stay based on employment you must leave the same day.

You can apply for an 7 days extension for 1900 baht.

If you are on a visa you can stay as long as your latest border stamp.

Entered Thailand on a non imm b, got work permit, some time later job ended (at this time visa still has 2 months to go), hand in work permit, go to immigration with Tor Thor 10 (form from labour department saying that work has ended), previously you'd have 7 days from your last day of work as entered on Tor Thor 10 . Has this been changed to just one day?

Ah, I get it. Previously you didn't need to get a 7 day extension, you could just leave within 7 days or you could get the 7day extension stamped in your passport for free. Now it seems they're charging for it.

Expecting someone to leave the country the same day their job ends is ridiculous, rude even.

As long as I can remember its been that they have given only the 1 day to leave. But you can apply for a seven day extension.

You could also just pay the 500 Bht per day when you leave.

If you do not have a visa extension and still only the original visa, it is valid until the date shown on the visa.

Moved to Visas.

Well someone has to pay for the free tourist visas they're handing out, you didn't think they'd just absorb the cost now did youwink.gif
