Thais Travelling To Malaysia

Featured Replies

Am I correct in thinking that Thais can travel to Malaysia and other countires with a land border to Thailand with just their ID card?

Cheers

usually, but not always.

In most cases they can get a border pass upon showing their ID card to Thai authorities. The border pass can be used in liu of a passport. Problem is, it is only valid for three days of of travel to the neighbouring country, and technically, only the bordering province or state.

So you can get a border pass of Laos and Cambodia. Dunno about Burma. Border passes for travel to Cambodian aren't generally available to Thai nationals aren't generally available unless they have a house registration in a border province with Cambodia.

My advice is to just get a Thai passport. Piece of pie to get and only costs 1000 baht. Allows 30 days entry to Malaysia and Laos.

yes they are. Not sure where you would apply for one though.

They have stopped doing this in Malaysia (Sadao) and refused entry, although I got the impression we would have been granted this if we were staying within 25km of the border.
