Hi,

I've read a lot of the forum and was just hoping to get a clarification from the experts.

My wife and I are American and are approaching the end of our first year on a "O-A" retirement visa. While our visas expire July 2010, we have travelled out of Thailand during the year and have "admitted to stay" stamps until February 2011. We are planning a trip out of the country for all of July (when visa expires). My understanding is that we will need a re-entry permit before we leave, but can wait until 30 days before the February 2011 expiration date to apply for an retirement extension of stay. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you need a Re Entry Permit . 1000 Baht. Available from Immigration.

Yes can apply for an extension within the final 30 days of your stay in February.

You can apply for the extension and your Wife can apply for the extension as your dependent. Meaning that only you have to provide financial evidence. Your Wife will not have to.
