Dear all,

a friend of mine, he is from Germany and in Thailand with the Non – B (not on extension) asked me a question that I could not really answer at the time.

He is in a project with a Thai company and he expects that for the time that the project will be realised he will work in Thailand on this for erection and commissioning with the Thai company. The total time is estimated by now for may be one year or even more.

His Question is: Do I need a WorkPermit to do this? He is self employed in the German company that delivers the know how for this project.

Any recommendations are welcome!

He works in Thailand and needs a work permit for that.

Tks. Mario! I told him like this already. Are there any known exeptions if he is doing this only for a couple of days during one month?

Not sure, there are some provisions in case of an emergency repair for example, not taking longer than 15 days. But this seems a regular job so he will have to get a WP.

See 2.16 of the police order: http://www.immigrati...777-2551_en.pdf

But the rules for a WP remain more unclear. The labour department is not a star in providing information in English.

If he earns income from work in Thailand ,whether it is paid inside or outside Thailand then he needs a work permit and then has to pay pay tax. Avoiding this process is illegal and the risk is personal and born by him alone.
