Sorry to "answer" your question with another... Do you really need a burner in your Laptop?

Lets put it this way...

My next Laptop/Notebook or whatever it is, will not have any CD burner at all if I can avoid it. If I need a burner, usually it is very seldom and it is never something I need while I'm out somewhere. I would look for alternatives like external burner or a burner attached to your server at home or in office.

You can almost always store large stuff on the HD or USB for backup, until you come back home and you can let the burner do whatever is is supposed to while having "cup of java".

Whatever you have on your HD you need to backup, so you need a secondary storage anyway. Why not combine it with a good heavy burner that does exactly everything you want without being limited to the space and weight limitation of a Laptop computer. Maybe a slight change to your current work flow would make this solution more attractive and you would have a cheaper laptop optimized for other things than to accommodate a CD burner. Will save your back...

For the Blue Ray capabilities, I really wouldn't pay a cent as it is just another of those DRM packed products.... but that's maybe just me.

No I don't need a burner in my laptop but the unit coming has one so no need to go out and get an external burner. I wanted to know if it can burn good old CD's? Any ideas anyone as CD is not included in the spec wording.

Sorry I misunderstood.

I thought you said you were looking for a laptop... but I see now you are looking at one...
