Police Protection for illegal gamblers revealed by Navy investigators

PATTAYA: -- On Tuesday Morning we joined the Royal Thai Navy Narcotics Unit based in Sattahip for another of their crime suppression operations. This time, they received information on a location which was being used for gambling. It was thought this was a well organized operation and there was a suspicion the main organizer was paying off local Police to ensure her gambling den would never be shut down. Despite this, the Navy Officers conducted a raid of the location in Plu Ta Luang located on the outskirts of Pattaya. A total of 7 people were arrested after they were caught playing “Hi-Low” for cash. The main organizer of the event was Khun Gamontorn aged 52 who placed a call to a local Police Officer who informed them that the Navy team had come to arrest her. The Police refused to help and the woman even tried to pay the Navy team 40,000 Baht to leave. They refused and were given the name of a Police Senior Sergeant Major who the woman was allegedly paying 40,000 Baht a month to. The Officer will be investigated and the gamblers were taken away to the local Police Station for processing.

Good, can we soon have the name and picture of the officer being payed off for his protection?

And to thank I use to have the poker games on my ships. How times have changed.

do navy officers have the power to arrest gamblers ? , and why on earth where the navy there in the first place? seems very strange

As the police is busy in all other various activities, and the sergeant in this article is just a minor example, everybody else feel free to do what they are not doing, soon we might have a crackdown from the bus ticket controller team, be ready for it! :D

UPDATE

New information emerges following recent Gambling arrest in Plu Ta Luang

SATTAHIP: -- Back on 22nd June we featured a story from the Plu Ta Luang area which is located just outside of Pattaya, where a team of Sattahip Navy Narcotics Officers arrested a female suspect in relation to a well organized illegal gambling operation. At the time the woman gave her name as Khun Gamontorn aged 52 and claimed she paid a local Police Officer 40,000 Baht a month to avoid arrest. This story sent shockwaves through the local community as the Plu Ta Luang Police have always had a special relationship with residents and are known for their fairness and commitment to acting in accordance with Thai Law. Further investigations revealed the woman gave a fake name. She is in fact, Khun Tinagorn aged 35 and confessed to making up the story about bribing a local Police Officer.

Since when is Plu Ta Luang on the outskirts of Pattaya? The Plu Ta Luang I know about is South of Sattahip across from the Navy and Marine base.
