Work Permit Extension Advice

Featured Replies

Greetings all !

My work permit will expire at the end of this month but I'm not sure if it's worth my while to extend it as I only work in the High Season(1 Nov-1 May /6months).

I have been told I will need to pay tax on money that I don't earn i.e(the next 4 months) as it is low season now and I'm not working.

I have a one year multiple entry visa, so I was thinking ,it would be better to extend my work permit in November rather than now which will eliminate me having to pay tax for the next 4 months for nothing.

Also, what is the fee to extend the work permit and will there be any penalties?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve.

The fee for extending a work permit is 3,100 baht for 1 year.

If you don't extend it, you will have to get a new work permit when you start working again.

It might affect you getting a new 1 year multiple entry non-B visa in the region.

Tax has nothing to do with your WP.

You are taxed at whatever the going rate is for your salary. If you are not earning any income, there is no tax. So, using this as an excuse not to renew your WP is not valid. Maybe you are referring to other company deductions such as social security ?

Mario's comments above on getting your Visa renewed are spot on.
