I am totally confused and I have read Ministry Of Foriegn Affairs information and most things on this website.I had a Non immigrant B visa and I have a wprk permit.Stupidly I left the country without buying a re-entry permit to visit my sick mother. Now I have a 30 day stamp on entry and my visa is terminated I'm told. I went to my local immigration at Chiang Mai immigration who told me I must go to Bangkok to get a 90 day non-immigrant B visa but trying to find out how long this takes and exactly what documents I need is confusing. One website gives certain information but another says I need my employment history and education certified by both my Cosulate and the Ministry Of Foriegn affairs before I can apply.Has anyone experience of this problem. I have 8 months left on my work permit. Would I be better advised to go to Vientane or KL? Has anyone ever received a visa from Hull in the UK by posting the passport and documents to a friend to send to Hull? If this happens what will happen when I go to the border to re-entry with my entry stamp being tourist?

Whatever you do, DO NOT send your passport out of the country as you wont have any exit/entry stamps - this is illegal.

If not mistaken, your WP validity follows your Visa / extension date validity, if the Visa is voided means the WP is voided too. I might be wrong but i think you have to start all over again - Visa + WP.

Work permits no longer follow visas. But he can not work even with the work permit if he does not have a valid non immigrant B visa. I believe he had an extension of stay from Immigration so if he wants another only needs a single entry non immigrant B visa (which will allow work) and then can be used as basis for a new extension of stay application. I would take company paperwork/work permit to Vientiane rather than trying to convert in Bangkok as that should be a sure thing and no more costly.
