Adsl Vs. 3G In Koh Tao?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I'll be arriving in Koh Tao on Monday and plan on staying for a month. I need internet access in order to do my work (does NOT need to be blazing fast - if I can load and play most online videos without a huge wait, then it's perfect).

I have a few leads on apartments with Wifi access, but I'm wondering if it's better to just pick up a 3G aircard here in Bangkok to use over there.

What are the recommendations on this? If I do get an aircard, how much will it cost (initial aircard investment + one month fee) or is there an easy way to get a used one? Who are the best providers for this service?

Or should I just stick with ADSL on the island?

Thanks for any leads or information on this!

I do not think there is 3G on Tao ? You can use the EDGE mobile network which is fine for all but huge downloads but your best bet would be to book into a place that has free Wi-Fi. Lots of bars and cafes also offer it for free now

Thank you for the response!

I'll head over without getting any kind of Aircard and report back here once I arrive and am armed with a bit more information.

Hi, there are plenty of free wireless places on Tao now. Book a place with free Wi-Fi or book somewhere near a bar or restaurant that offers it. Whenever I go to Tao I always use the Safety stop bar in Mae Haad near the Seatran pier. Good grub, cheap beer and fast, free internet.

you may find it difficult to achieve this level of performance on KT even though you have a good WIFI connection.

>Otherwise, I agree with the other comments about using the WIFI in a favorite restaurant, dive base, or in your room, if you happen to have it...
