No Bail For Acid-throwing Lover

No bail for acid-throwing lover

BANGKOK: -- A man who threw acid into his girlfriend's face in a fit of jealous rage yesterday was denied bail today, despite pleas for clemency from his family.

Mr. Phumiphat Ruengrattanaphong, who was given a police detention order by the court today, was told that the premeditated nature of his crime and the fact that he had no fixed address meant that he was regarded as being at risk of escaping should he be granted bail.

Although his relatives came up with Bt200,000 in the form of property and insurance policies, the court upheld the police decision, and Mr. Phumiphat was taken to Bangkok Special Prison.

Mr. Phumiphat is accused of having thrown acid into the face of his girlfriend, Miss Methinee Sorawichitrat, in the underground parking lot of the bank in which she worked.

Miss Methinee, who was apparently with a well-off looking man when the incident occurred, was left seriously injured by the attack.

She later told police that she had suffered repeated physical abuse at the hands of her boyfriend when he had lost out on bets, or had been high on drugs.

Doctors have said that she could lose her right eye, and that her face and body are 80 percent covered with acid burns.

throw away the key :o

Let us hope it is not the start of a trend here as it is in Pakistan where "honour" attacks using acid are common and arrests and convictions are as common as feathers on a frog.

I saw a TV programme and the results of these attacks are really horrific the family of the perpetrator said he had every right to do it,

Muslim ethics at work again.

Should be better controls on getting the acid in the first place. Way too easy for common people to get what should be controlled substances. Youy even see this during songkran.

The whole honor saving face thing was big in the west once upon a time, why can't Asia get over it? So, she was with another guy, so go be with another girl. I mean acid? <deleted>? :o

An eye for an eye, a face for a face and a body for a body using the same methods on him that he used, except, do it slowly and leave the eye to the last so that he can see it happening.

:o:D
