June 25, 201016 yr So, I inquired with the MIL about getting a yellow house registration book and getting on it for proof of residence purposes (instead of harassing my embassy or harassing immigration). She goes to the local police station...who told her in no uncertain terms that I can get on the blue book with a passport copy, marriage registration copy and visa copy. Now, I'm close to 100% sure this isn't true as I'm not PR or anything special, just one-year-at-a-time extension of marriage. My question is thus: if they actually do manage to put me on the blue book, will I run in to trouble later? (I know penalties for falsely claiming citizenship are extreme in some countries but I'm not sure in Thailand..)
June 26, 201016 yr 1. The police don't issue the Tabien Bahn house book (yellow or blue), the local Amphur does. 2. The house book is an administrative document, an official registration of who lives where and has nothing to do with citizenship. All Thais must be listed in a blue house book somewhere. 3. As a general rule only Thais can be listed in the blue house book. 4. If you can get listed in a house book, either yellow or blue, good on ya. Edited June 26, 201016 yr by InterestedObserver

As for number 4 your off base for I have mine own Yellow Tabien Bahn. that and 65 baht will get me a large bottle of Tiger beer. Edited June 26, 201016 yr by gotlost
June 26, 201016 yr 3. As a general rule only Thais can be listed in the blue house book.4. If you can get listed in a house book, either yellow or blue, good on ya. An oddity: I have a 30-year lease on a house. My name appears on the chanote, and it appears (in phonied-up Thai) on the title page of the house blue book, just below the name of the Thai owner. I have found that my copy of the book is accepted by all as proof of address, which is pretty weird because that's not what it means. Just because I have a lease doesn't mean that I am living there. Still, I'm quite happy to have it.
June 26, 201016 yr Which just goes to show you that nothing is cast in concrete in Thailand. Depending on what day of the week it is, the rules change.

If that is the case heeps of farangs (married) going to the Amphur to get on the blue book, as long as you do'nt have to go through all that twaddle to get a yellow book. Standby for replies of " I got a yellow book & it was easy peasy". Heard it all before at 'farang corner' in the market.

Yes but I should imagine that getting your local Amphur to agree with that might be a different matter.

I don't want to even appear to misrepresent myself if I try for PR and/or naturalization a lot later on, which is why I'm a little worried.
June 26, 201016 yr It is your right to be on the tabien ban, and will only help your aplication for PRTthai nationality.
June 26, 201016 yr Author It is your right to be on the tabien ban, and will only help your aplication for PRTthai nationality. Right...which is why I asked to get on the yellow one. But it seems the office is offering to put me on the blue one.

If you got a tempory isa you get a yellow Book, if you got residency , you get a Blue Book, whats new?
June 26, 201016 yr According to posts here yesterday under the Thai civil Registration Act 2008 Section 36 you can be added to the house book at the Amphur.
June 26, 201016 yr If you got a tempory visa you get a yellow Book, if you got residency , you get a Blue Book, whats new? When I bought my condo 2 years ago, I went to Pattaya City Hall and could easily get a "blue book" but no way to get a "yellow book" ... Not very useful because my name does not appear on the blue book, not even in Thai. I have a non-Imm O visa.
June 27, 201016 yr Earlier this year i went through the process to get the Yellow book, no way to get my name in the Blue one as i'm a foreigner i was told - we had a local lady who does all this do the majority for us, but once all the documents were ready we had to go in person to the Hua Hin Tessabaan to ensure that everything was in order, and i had to complete/sign a form in order to allow them to get everything according to their process. We were informed that we would get the next day, and they phoned the next day for us to come complete the formalities. The important bit as we saw it was the spelling of my name - the Land Office actually had two different spellings of my name so we had an all day visit there to get them to make the change, before the Tessabaan would accept the application.
June 27, 201016 yr Read the article carefully, it states nothing new. If you got a tempory isa you get a yellow Book, if you got residency , you get a Blue Book, whats new? Exactly. The blue and yellow books are both called the same 'Tabien Bahn' in Thai but for us, unless on PR, it is a yellow book. The yellow book is linked by number and reference to a blue book of the owner of the house. My name is in the blue book but only as being the father of our son. When I got my yellow book I was told that some government agencies may require to see both yellow and blue book as proof of residence. Though this has not yet happened to me. opalhort
June 27, 201016 yr Yellow or blue, appearing on the title page does not affirm that you live at that address. Appearing on the subsequent page(s) serves that purpose. Correct? As alluded to in my post above, my name appears on the title page of the house blue book because I have a 30-year lease on it. That doesn't mean that I live there, but for most secondary purposes (e.g. 90-day reporting) it has been effective.
June 27, 201016 yr So is the purpose of the Yellow Book only to list people living in the house that are not Thai or have Thai PR? Apart from saving a trip and 1000b at the Embassy is there any other advantage? I will more than likely be going down the PR path in later years, how can it help that as mentioned above? Cheers
June 27, 201016 yr It shows your residency in Thailand, which is important for PR. Being on the tabien ban will certainly be appreciated.
October 24, 201015 yr Read the article carefully, it states nothing new. If you got a tempory isa you get a yellow Book, if you got residency , you get a Blue Book, whats new? Exactly. Though this has not yet happened to me. opalhort I was searching for some answers about tambien bahn, and what the document really is . I came across this posting and thought I would post my questions here. Is the name on the title page the owner of the property ? you stated " blue book of the owner of the house" -- or is the name on the title page the most senior member of the family living on the property ? I am not in the tambien bahn but my wife is - she owns the property ( registered deed) and there are 2 houses on the property ( same address) -- her mother is listed on the title page of the tambien bahn. followed by her brother , followed by brother's wife, then my wife , then brothers two children -- this is all according to age,as near as I can tell. If the tambien bahn is a document showing ownership, we need to get some changes made. When the tambien bahn was issued, my wife's grandfather owned the property ( he owned several ) -- later my wife bought the property from him If it is merely a residency document -- no problem. October 24, 201015 yr When I bought my condo 2 years ago, I went to Pattaya City Hall and could easily get a "blue book" but no way to get a "yellow book" ... Not very useful because my name does not appear on the blue book, not even in Thai. I have a non-Imm O visa. Normally, if you have foreign freehold on a condo then you get a blank Blue Tabien Baan; any Thais who live at that address could be registered in it; you would need to apply for a Yellow Tabien Baan, which can have your name in it. To get a yellow Tabien Baan requires various paperwork, including a translation of confirmation of your identity from your Embassy, which has been certified by the MFA Legalisation Dept in Bangkok.
