Need Help Finding Gps Coordinates....

Featured Replies

Can anyone determine the GPS coordinates for this address?

60 MOO 12

T. KHAO KAEO

A. CHIANG KHAN

LOEI 42110 THAILAND

TIA!

I've sure never had much luck finding a particular address when it's only listed as part of a "Moo," always have had to stop and ask a local postman or at the Amphur.  At least you can come close by checking a map, do a Google for:  Khao Kaeo loei<div><br></div><div>Khao Kaeo seems to be one of the tambons of Chiang Khan, just north of Loei town.</div><div><br></div><div>Take a look here via Google Earth:  17-48-40N x 101-46-50E</div><div><br></div><div>Mac</div>

Thanks for the help, I'm knowing first hand how difficult it is to correlate a Thai address to a fixed GPS coordinate, but I thought I would see if anyone has been more successful lately. We would like to drive there and were looking to be able to pinpoint the house before hand. I see that the Amphur Loei has a Changwat "Chiang Khan" in the north but bordering Changwat Chiang Khan to the Southeast is Changwat(?) Khao Kaeo. Is the Khao Kaeo Changwat a Tambon of the neighboring Changwat Chiang Khan (for Postal addressing purposes) or is there a separate locale of "Tambon Khao Kaeo" inside of Changwat Chiang Khan proper?

Therein lies my confusion.

Descending from the higher to lower public administrations:

-- Loei is the changwat, the province

-- Chiang Khan is the amphur, the district

-- Khao Kaeo is the tambon, a sub-district within Chiang Khan

-- Moo, is down to the village level, and your address is in Village #12 it seems.

If you're driving up from Loei town on Hwy 201, about half way to Chiang Khan suggest you just ask at a gas station for Khao Kaeo area, you should be able to get directions OK.

Thanks once again for your help in narrowing my search!

Now that I know the Khao Kaeo that I'm looking for is the sub-district within Chiang Kahn and not (within) the adjacent Chanwat of Khao Kaeo, I am that much closer!

Hmmmm, I wonder if there is a way to at least (Google Earth)-map the boundaries of Tambon Khao Kaeo?

We will try to get more geographical reference points from my friend's in-laws.

This is as close as I can get as my Google Map needs updated. 17 deg 49'02.91"N 101 deg 46'44.66"E

According to Garmin Thailand StreetMap v10.1 NT map - Khao Kaeo, Khao Kaeo Municipal Office, Khao Kaeo Subdist. Office and Tambon Khao Kaeo Public Service Center are located somewhere here: N17.79925 E101.73122

Thanks for the reply! Your coordinates pinpointed my original dilemma: Tambon Khao Kaeo was supposed to be a separate entity from the neighboring Ampher Khao Kaeo.

Coincidentally, it just so happened that I just found Tambon Khao Kaeo (in) Ampher Chiang Khan on an older 2006 Thai map - I think the Amphers are different on this 2006 map than on the newer Google map! I am trying to pinpoint the area onto the Google Earth map.

Also, I'm interested in learning if there is a school of thought that explains the decimal vs degree-minute-seconds GPS coordinate format or is it basically the old 'Metric - English system' divide?

Getting closer! Now all that is left is to pinpoint the Moo and then the house itself!

Yes, you are correct. 60 seconds =1 minute, and 60 minutes = 1 Degree.

For example N17.79925 = N17 Degree, 0.79925 x 60 Min = N17 Degree, 47.955 Min = N17 Degree, 47 Min, 0.955 x 60 Sec = N17 Degree, 47 Min, 57.3 Sec.
