I went there for the first time today, so will leave my thoughts just incase anyone else decides to go

its quite pleasant and quiet, you still have to deal with a few annoyances but no where near as much as other Cambodian borders. There will still be "agents" / helpers trying to do everything for you.

Getting the Cambodian visa, they will ask for 1100 Thai baht or more. I managed to pay US$20 + 200 baht, because I already had the $US and convinced them to let me pay just a little extra, although they wanted 400 bahtOn doing your arrival card, they will probably go ahead and stamp the departure too. Because you there less than 24 hours there will be a fee of 200 baht. They might show you a printed out email stating that the $20 is only for tourist visas staying the minimum of 24 hours, that is why there is an extra fee. I found myself a getting a little annoyed, but didn't know if I had a case, so in the end I just payed it and moved along before I said something stupid.

If you're coming from Korat and get a bus to Surin using the route via Prasaat then hop off at Prasaat and catch a van to the Chom Chong from there. It might save you an hour. Don't make the mistake I did at first and go all the way to Surin only to realize you didn't have to.

That minibus ride from the border to surin would have to be one of the worst travel expieriences in the L.O.S.

no aircon, old bus, jammed packed, nursed my bag,3 seats had 5 jammed across first row, stop every 10 minutes ,sweltering heat

ah'well, the pool @ the majestic never felt better.B)

Agreed and the drivers are nutters!

I live a short distance from that Surin/Prasat road and have seen many accidents.
