Hi Natty...

Honestly you will not find a decent "new" guitar for 4K baht anywhere here.

If you do, it will be a piece of crap.

A "decent" guitar starts at around 7K baht (and goes much higher).

We have a 1 year old Oscar-Washburn that we "may" be willing to sell.

It is a 1/2 sized guitar.

Upon purchase, it was immediatly "luthered" for the neck adj and frets.

My 8 year old used it to learn for 9 months.

I run D'Addario Super Light strings (.009~.045) on it.

Strings are due to be replaced, and I have a new set ready.

I do not recall what it cost new (I have to ask Ms. Howto).

A excellent small guitar to learn on.

The 8 year old has "inherited" the 3/4 Crafter Guitar (purchased at the same time),

which the 10 year old was using until 3 months ago.

The 10 year old is now using my full size

1981 Ibanez M340 flamed maple dreadnought acoustic/electric.

I do need to purchase a 7/8 sized guitar for him,

so I can put away that most wonderful/beautiful Ibanez.

We may want to sell the Oscar-Washburn (I have to ask Ms. Howto).

Don't know where you live.

I live in Pathumtani, Klong Luang, not too far from Talad Thai.

I would prefer you see it 1'st, (however it is in excellent condition).

It's been used for 9 months, since June 2009.

Been sitting in it's bag for 3 months.

If you are interested, please PM me,

as the Guitar teacher comes here every Sunday from 2~4 pm.

and I will ask him to replace the strings.

Best if you are here at that time.

Please bear in mind that I am not trying to sell this as our 5.5 year old daughter can also use it at age of 7.

Cheers

In Thailand you want a Yamaha to start out on. They are available everywhere and the entry level runs at a very affordable 3.5-4k Baht. You get more than enough quality for the small price. If price really is an issue, look for second hand Yamahas'....if you can stretch the budget a little more, say 7k-9k you could get a Yamaha worth keeping. Anyhow in this price range Yamaha........if money was no object, Guilds, Martins, Gibsons, Takamine! Remember that on lower level guitars set up and quality of strings is very important to obtaining a good sound. Good luck!

this is the bottom line. the cheaper it's made, the harder it is to stay in tune and feel comfortable. it could easily turn somebody off from playing for life. Yamaha is making good guitars that are relatively inexpensive.

I have to disagree, when I used to live in Chiang Mai I got an off brand guitar in the local shop for around 2000B, the thing is with these you have to play them individually and buy one that feels good (check every string and fret for dead spots etc). This guitar served me well for many years; I'm not playing professional gigs with it mind you (if that is your case then you might need to shell out the big bucks) but it always stayed in tune and sounded more than decent enough and the action was fine. Spend the time and shop around and you can probably find something decent and cheap.
