ถ้าเชื่อกะเชื่อ

After hearing เชื่อกะเชื่อ I went googling as I was not sure what it meant.

What I came up with was this, that has to do with the subject of UFO’s.

ถ้าเชื่อกะเชื่อ ถ้าไม่กะไม่ มานเปงเรื่องลี้ลับอ่า ต้องใช้พิจรญาณในการเชื่องับ.

My interperpretation for ถ้าเชื่อกะเชื่อ ถ้าไม่กะไม่ is - if you believe it, you

believe it, if you don’t, you don’t. (no middle ground). The rest of the line I have

trouble with. Perhaps เปง is a misspelling. I think the rest means something like -

in this mystery one must consider การเชื่องับ.

Would anyone have a definition for การเชื่องับ ?

If เปง is เป็น and งับ is ครับ then it makes sense. Was this out of a chat room by chance?

I'm not sure what sort of site it came from.

If I were to say:

ยุติเล่นกับอาหาร ถ้ากินกะกินซี

Would that mean? - stop playing with your food. If you are going to eat then eat.-

I'm just wondering about using กะ with other words. Thanks for your input.

Although I'm sure you checked before you posted. A quick perusal of thai-language-dot-com for the word กะ revealed the following meanings;

1. to; with; also

2. [colloquial spelling of] กับ

3. to estimate or guess, to reckon, plan or plot

4. shift; turn

5. guess; rough estimate

6. [colloquial abbreviation] and; &

The 1982 RID info on there also says this about it;

กะ ๑ /กะ/

[นาม] เครื่องหมายบอกทำนองสวด เช่น กะมหาชาติคำหลวง, ทำนองสวด เช่น สวดกะ.

[นาม] รอบการเข้าเวร, ระยะเวลาที่ผลัดเปลี่ยนกันทำงาน, เช่น กะแรก กะที่ ๒.

I seems pretty clear from the context here that กะ  means ก็:

ถ้าเชื่อกะเชื่อ ถ้าไม่กะไม่ มานเปงเรื่องลี้ลับอ่า ต้องใช้พิจรญาณในการเชื่องับ

If you believe it believe it; if you don't then don't. It's a mystery. You've got to use your own judgement when it comes to beliefs.

กะ = ก็

มาน = มัน

เปง = เป็น

อ่า = หว่า

งับ = ครับ

Peppy's evidently right that กะ means ก็ here.

Also, พิจรญาณ should be พิจารณา

That's six misspelled words in a single sentence. The internet and text messaging have much value, but they sure do foster illiteracy.

Peppy is right, กะ is just slang for ก็ - in this particular case.

You'll also see กะลัง as slang for กำลัง and กะ as slang for กับ.
