Philippino Nanny

Featured Replies

I'd like to get an English speaking nanny to take care of my daughter in a few months. My daughter was just born and my wife will return to work in about about five or six months.

The nanny can either live with us, or just work full time while we are at work. The thing is, I have no idea where to start looking for a nanny. I believe that a Philippino nanny would suit us best because of they do tend to speak English much better than their Thai counterparts, and we can't spend more than 15k baht per month for his/her salary (preferably a female).

Any help on where to start with this would be much appreciated.

you'll face work permit issues.

I believe the minimum salary per month for a Filipino is 30k B for a work permit

The best is always to have a person speak only in their native language to a baby / child. If the nanny speaks less than perfect English with an accent and with limited active vocabulary, your child will learn to do the same. In my opinion this is not a good idea at all.

In Thailand, if I had no other choice but to get a nanny, I would much prefer a Thai nanny speaking only Thai to the child, at least the child can then learn that language correctly. Otherwise I would try to find a native English speaker to spend time with your child.

Before considering to give your daughter into the care of someone else as early as 6 months, please also read a lot about the effect this has on the child. If there is any chance at all, try to make it possible for the mother to care for her daughter herself. A small baby needs one steady carer, and brestfeeding is very important anyway, for much longer than 6 months.
