george
1,000-plus officers in dawn drugs raid CHIANG MAI: -- As dawn rose over the mountainous parts of Thailand's northern province of Chiang Mai this morning, more than 1,000 police, military and narcotics control officers surrounded over 50 villages in an attempt to flush out the northern province’s continuing drugs problem. Fanning out to locations across Chiang Dao, Chai Prakarn, Fang, Mae Ai and Wiang Haeng districts, the officers searched houses and confiscated drugs and weapons. Today’s raid follows a smaller operation yesterday, in which drug traffickers ambushed security officers, injuring one in his shoulder and hand, and a second in his thigh. The crackdowns come as part of the third phase of the government’s war on drugs. Although the nation’s drug problem has been greatly reduced, traffickers are increasing finding new ways to circumvent the law enforcers. --TNA 2005-07-

PeaceBlondie
All wars fail miserably, but no war has failed more miserably than the war against drugs. It's hopeless to fight the supply of drugs when the demand for drugs continues to rise. People want drugs for a number of reasons. The worst drug of all, ethyl alcohol, cannot be prohibited. Virtually nothing is done to stop the demand for drugs.
