Driving soon from Pattaya to Hua Hin.I got the map marked and printed out the directions(in English) and everything seems straight forward.

Does anyone know where I can get the directions printed out in Thai as my partner has no sense of direction and the last time I asked her to navigate using the map she followed the railway lines.

I am looking for something like google maps where I can input the details in English but get the directions printed in Thai.

Thanks

hi,

Two comments:

1. Google maps is available in both English and Thai, depends on the language you choose.
2. If your GF has no sense of direction and no experience on Bangkok expressways, she's not going to be much help to you. Getting to Bangkok is a no-brainer from Pattaya. Getting from Bangkok to HuaHin is also a no-brainer - all the signs are in both English and Thai. The tricky part is getting across Bangkok from the Chon-Buri motorway to the Rama 2 Expressway but if you have a decent map it should be no problem. Just study the map and make a note of the route number - all major routes have alloted route numbers which appear on maps and on signposts, so you'll be fine.

cheers

Yeah, agree with the above.

My lady is also useless with maps and directions (even in Thai). I just follow the route on the map noting each change of road number together with left/right and the next big town and make a crib sheet. Wifey is always amazed when we arrive at the destination without having to ask every five minutes :)

Or you could get a GPS :)

Invest in a gps they work well and if you get diverted from where you go they put you back on track. I would not drive through Bangkok without one.

I tried the map thing with my g/f when we were in phuket.

We were looking at the map, deciding where we were going the next day. Drew the route on to the map, which had both Thai and English road and town names on it, we identified the first part of the route 'ok so we go out from the hotel, turn right, up to the roundabout then right again yes? 'yes' she said 'then we follow this road (tracing it with my finger) till we get to this junction...' 'yes' she said 'and then we go left' she said, filling me with confidence. 'ok, so you can read the map?' 'yes' 'everything ok for tomorrow?' 'yes mai me bpen haa'

Next day off we go, turn right, up to the roundabout, right again, I'm dealing with the unpredictable nature of the Thai driving conditions but still checking she knows where we're going... 'you ok?' 'yes' 'you know where we are?' (puzzled look as if to say 'why're you asking me that?') 'YES!'

All the time she's studying the map, again, I'm confident.

First junction...' which way honey?' 'right' 'you sure?' 'yes' up a small winding road that I don't remember on the map, didn't go anywhere near where we wanted to go but she had the map and was certain, I mean absolutely certain.

After a few more 'you sure?' 'yes' by which time we're right up in the heights of Phuket, which would have been fine, but we were headed for a beach! I took a glance at the map...........
