This time last year round trip prices were <$800 round trip bkk to lax...Over the last couple years they've been as low as $600 and over the last 4 years they've never been anything close to the now whopping $2000 it is to fly round trip between the 2. Are they likely to stay this high?

I don't understand how you have arrived at a 2.5% increase over last years prices. If this is the case then I would suggest that 2.5% is well within the cost of living index. The difference betwen $800 and $2,000 is a whole lot more tham 2.5%!

Same thing going in the other direction (lax to bkk). In February I bought a round trip ticket for $840, a good deal. The prices are now $1350 and up. I'm hoping for some promotions when the airlines realize that there aren't enough tourists to fill those seats at those prices.

I think they have allready dropped flights and reduced the number of seats

My brother was trying to fly from Phoenix to BKK next month. The cheapest we could find was around $1500. A bit steep. Like you said, I've always been able to find fares under $1000, but not for the past year or so. I've been searching for over a month now and the cheapest I have found to Vegas is about $1200 in December.

Price of oil is getting us....or is it all that new building they are doing in Dubai, Doha, etc, etc. At least we know where our hard earned money is going! :whistling:

Just found RT to Las Vegas for a bit under $1100...on Delta all the way. Nice as it is with the airlines directly, not via Expedia, Travelocity, etc. This is for travel over Xmas and New Years...so a good deal, I think....
