So You Want To Buy From Amazon?

Featured Replies

I know a lot of you get your Amazon orders. But I have tried to get everything from books to a handbag to other electronics and they all say that due to manufacturer restrictions, such and such is not shipped to Thailand.

So how do you guys do it?

I send to an address in the US and then they forward it.

once you account for customs and shipping and the risk of it being lost, stolen or damaged, you are probably better buying it here.

Depends on what your buying, some things are definitely worth the hassle to buy in the US and ship to Thailand. Customs can be a problem but you can calculate what you have to pay and at times your just lucky and don't pay a thing. On most things that i get shipped to me i don't pay a dime.

I get textbooks sent to me 3 times a year via Amazon and not only do they get here on time, they actually REFUND the customs duty to my credit card- which isn't apparent;y collected. Maybe it is just a textbook thing, but it happens.

Regardless, I'm quite happy with them and would use them anytime.

I figured as much. Send to USA or UK and reship.

Crossy, thanks for the link. Will look at the site.

Very frustrating. I wanted to buy a lovely new handbag from farangland for tilac and could not get it. Now I lost face! lol

I have had many books shipped here.  THe only problem I ever had was one copy of a new release which I couldn't get a Kindle version while here in Thailand due to some restrictions.

What do you mean?  I purchase a lot of books probably hundred of books and a few CDs or DVD from Amazon all the time.

I've had books forwarded from the UK brought through Amazon before, no duties..

I just received a book yesterday from Amazon ordered 10 days ago. I wasn't expecting it for at least another week. I don't appear to have had to pay any duty

Maybe amazon.com and amazon.co.uk have different policies about shipping to Thailand?

Certain shops that register with amazon just wont ship to Thailand. Anything you like on amazon "copy and paste" name on ebay and you get the same item for a lot cheaper

Same problem here in Cambodia, though books are usually OK. I use a company that provides me with a postal address in the US and then forwards the stuff to me (at a prize, of course).

Perhaps the problem derives from amazon and respective policies, as one can freely order and receive books and such from an assortment of online book distributors. Amazon certainly isn't the only online literary catalogue available. There are hundreds to chose from.....many that don't confine themselves to such repressive policies.

I checked with Amazon after I couldn't order items I had ordered previously. In my case (Asics running shoes) it was the manufacturer who stipulated that their shoes could no longer be sold abroad via Amazon.

Therein is the issue. Manufacturers issue directives to Amazon as to where their items can be shipped. THAT is what drives me crazy. I do not want to go to 20 different shops to buy. Books would be but a small part of my purchases with them. The re-shipping companies sound like the only option.

I just had 10,000 dollars worth of photo equipment shipped to me. Talk about pins and needles. I was manic for days. It arrived no problem and i paid dutys on the items.

There is a new law in effect the anything over 40,000 baht has to have a thai customs agent do the paperwork. What a rip.

I have all of my stuff shipped to an address in america then forwarded to me.

But you can save big time buying from the u.s.

I ordered 2 books from Amazon 2 days ago. Went for the less expensive shipping they offered.

Checked my email this morning and Amazon stated books have been shipped and should arrive Sept 4th.

We will see. I do have a PO Box here in CM so shipping goes stright to a post office. Less handeling

this way.
