Have You Helped Him/her Study English...

Featured Replies

Hi, I've been in Thailand for almost two years now (not very long...but starting to feel lengthy). I've been in a relationship for the past 6 months and he speaks about a pigeonful of English.

I've studied Thai through the Benjamin Boomsbecker (the orange one/thai for beginners...there's about 3) books, general conversation, watching movies, reading menus etc. etc.... I think the most helpful thing I've found is just repeating the tapes from my the Boomsbecker series. (i hope i have the right name...or that i'm giving credit where credit is due)....

but here's my question. my boyfriend has just started taking English courses and it's pretty exciting. But he wants to listen to tapes too...but as of yet, i don't know what learning English tapes to recommend.

Has anyone attempted to help their significant other/boyfriend or girlfriend with tapes to listen to? What books and tapes did you use? What can you recommend?

I read a thread that mentioned using our learning Thai books "in reverse" to teach English...but I don't completely think this is the best course as many of the conversations and sentences aren't recorded in English, even though they are translated in the book.

So if you have attempted this as a learning route-- what books and tapes did you use? thank you...
