Electrical Goods...

Featured Replies

Hi this might seem a silly question, but although not earthed will my electrical goods work in uk, large tv, stereo ect ect I was under the impression that they are roughly the same voltage 230-240.........

Yes, same voltage, same TV system. Some plugs might need an adapter to fit the socket.

allegedly , phone chargers are ok , but mysteriously a DVD player i bought at Pantip which was seen working there ok, has heating problems in UK, dont ask me why but its crap .

It is not the same TV system and will not work for on the air reception.

Well, sort of the same. Thailand's PAL B/M, while the UK is PAL I. In other words, video equipment is compatible, and TV equipment is maybe compatible (depends on model). Sorry, I should have been more specific.

A lot of the TV stuff bought here WILL work in the UK because it is true multi-standard and susses the slightly different PAL version, you need to read the manual before you buy.

Video equipment (DVD players etc.) will be just fine.

Be aware that the UK voltage is 240V, here is 220V, certain devices may not like the 9% overload (light bulbs blow quickly).

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

all devices should work from 200-250 without problems, normaly. I think the chinese products are not special for Thailand.

so this 9 % should not matter (normaly)

Believe you are right (and I am showing my age - during the tube/valve era most tuners were not as smart) but know many bringing units from UK seem to still report problems in Thailand - they sell PAl/I only in the UK market?
