Nonpension Income Validation

Featured Replies

Next month will be my 5th extention of stay for my O-A Retirment Visa. Previously I have been producing bank docs to substantiate my 800k balance but would like to switch over to the US Embassy affidavit method.

My questions are, as I still work full time in the States - what document should I bring to CW to backup my affidavit of income from the US Embassy (in case Thai immigration asks for it). I emailed ACS and they directed me to the http://www.immigration.go.th site - who did not reply. I couldn't find any other posting of people w/ an O-A that still work full time outside of Thailand and use their income to satisfy their 65k monthly income. Can this if fact be done? - as it technically is not a pension. I had zero problems with the other parameters when I applied after turning 50.

Also, is it still possible to get your re-entry permit at Suan Plu via the online application - or elsewhere in BKK proper? I've used that method for 4 years and it's great.

I find it a bit odd that they still haven't updated http://www.immigration.go.th to reflect the significant location change.

Many thanks in advance. I have enjoyed this site for years but this is my first post.

I get a letter from the American Embassy here every year to renew my retirement visa. They do not want to see any proof, it's quite comical. They have a form letter they give you, and you fill in your name/information and the amount of income you receive. They make you swear under penalty of perjury it is true and correct and they stamp it and give it to you.

If you are going elsewhere to get the letter your tax returns with w-2'S AND 1099'S attached are the standard proof of income.

What I do is that I have two bank accounts: I arrange for a transfer each month of the 65K (plus $100) from Account 1 to Account 2 ... so that Account 2 statement I generate online and then print-out (deposits only) clearly shows the 65K each month for x number of months.

You should not be asked but if you are any payslips/income tax copies/bank statements should be acceptable. It does not have to be pension income to qualify.

(3) Proof of income of not less than Baht 65,000 per month

I can't understand this post. What is the point of making an email application for a re-entry permit when you have to go to immigration anyway and pay the fee and give them a photo?? In my experience over many years I have always got yhe visa in about 5 minutes.

It is supposed to speed up things, but like you said, in the past at the airport it was always a 10 min. thing.

If I recall, the Thai Immigration was changing to not allowing obtaining of re-entry permits when exiting Thailand. They want you to obtain the re-entry permit at the Immigration Office which serves your area prior to you leaving.

AFAIK the Thai Immigration only allows a certified document from your Embassy as your proof of income. It does not have to be a pension. You still have to get a letter from the bank and provide copies of you bank book which shows the income being deposited regularly.

Nobody said any different about getting a re-entry permit. It is unlickly that the stop and stamp service would provide a re-entry permit to persons not living in Bangkok. But it certainly can't hurt to point out.

Income from abroad has to be certified by your embassy, but you don't need a letter from your bank in that case. You don't even have to receive the income on your account in Thailand. However, some immigration offices do whish to see a bank book with some money in it to see if you have enough to spend.

Where might elsewhere be for "the letter?"

Thank you for the responses. jazzbo that's interesting; i wouldn't have thought of that!

Yes, speed and convenience at Suan Plu would be optimal if I chose to get a 2nd single re-entry permit and didn't want to trek out to CW gov't center.

Also, would like to repatriate my 800kTHB so I don't have to send that pesky TD F 90-22.1 (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts) to the IRS in Detroit every June as the form has morphed from 1 to 4 pages now and is quite inquisitive.

Just curious, do all "O-A" ers on the 800k plan still send that report to the IRS? - - even after one's permanently moved out of the States and no longer pays taxes there??

Cheers....

It is never sent to IRS as has nothing to do with them. It must be sent to Treasury Department as noted in instructions. And it is really only a five minute exorcise if you only have a bank account or two.
