Chiang To Bangkok Airport (Intl) On Road

G'day,

I am planning to drive to Bangkok to catch a flight out. If possible, I am not going to do it in a day but like to stop at a good midway point to smell the roses.

Any recommendations where I should stop? I just want a one day stop, so no side tracking into the bushes.

Also, if you know of any pet friendly hotels around the midway point, please let me know. Hotels/resorts that are a little outside the city (but still close to the main highway) is best.

What are the recommendation routes? I know at least 11 then 1. Not sure about the rest.

Thanks

Matt

I'm guessing you mean Chiang Mai?

Nakhon Sawan or Phitsanulaok would be the places to stop.

Or Phichit but it's slightly off the main route.

Thanks, yes I did mean Chiang Mai. Couldn't find a way to edit the title of the post.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Bangkok is only a 6.5 hour drive for an experience diver, 8 if its your first time. The towns that are mentioned are not even have way. I suggest Ayutthaya. Its only 90 minutes from the airport, good hotels, good restraunts, (Thai and farang) and historical. You should be able to drive down to Ayutthays in about 6 hours. Highway 11 to Highway 1 to Highway 32.

Not sure about this time allocation. We're just south of Phichit (a few clicks east of Rt.11) and Suvarnabhumi is 4-5 hours depending on traffic. I would expect CM to SUV to be about double that, especially assuming the pet will need a pit stop or two along the way.

Ayutthaya is a nice place to stop, but the main tourist areas for rest & relaxation are a bit off the main drag, more so time-wise if arriving during heavy traffic.

My suggestion would be to leave early in the morning, perhaps 4am-5am. Then you can get all the way to the airport, while missing all of the heavier traffic times, and still have a big chunk of the day left for R&R.

I think this topic has come up several times in recent years so you may want to do a search.

Perhaps I could aim to get to the airport and stay over at one of the hotels near it. My top speed is around 100km, so I'll probably take a long time to get to BKK.

My situation is a little different as I have the dogs to consider, and most hotels in Thailand don't accept pets (so the related topics in this forum doesn't quite cover it). Also, I need to be at the airport several hours before the flight to complete the animal export paperwork.

thanks
