For the last 6 years i have renewed my stay in the kingdom through Thai wife status, up and till last month I always had a WP and have paid taxes etc throughout my stay.

1. Last month my employment was terminated, My visa expires mid September.

2. What options are available to me now to remain in Thailand, I am 44 yrs with 2 kids and married for 9 years.

3. I am considering starting my own business, however process might not be completed in time as my stamp in passport is 15th sept.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The rule is you need to have an income of 40,000 a month (ca be from abroad) or must have 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand in your name for 2 months prior to applying (some ask for 3 months).

If you don't qualify, you have to find another reason for staying in Thailand or get a multiple non-O from abroad and leave the country every 90 days. Normally study is a good reason, but does not allow work and a course Thai for example costs around 28,000 a year.

What did you base your previous extensions of stay on?

Min. 40K income per month or Bank deposit of min 400K?

The income option is obviously no longer available to you so you will have to use the Bank deposit. For the first time application using this option the requirement to season the funds is only 2 months (subsequent applications require 3 months).

If you do not yet have sufficient funds in a Bank account to satisfy this requiremt and time is too short you can do the deposit now and then first apply for a 60 days extension based on visiting Thai wife (no financial requirements for that). After that the funds have seasoned as required and then apply for a new one-year extension.

Beware that some offices, such as Pattaya, want to see 500,000 baht. I suppose they have had their little calculators out and worked out that 40*12=480 which is nearer to 500k than 400k and as such, the actual law of Thailand goes out of the window !

This is the first time I have heard this. The rule is 400,000 Baht.

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.
