butterisbetter
A friend of mine has a 100 year old watch that needs to be repaired. It still runs but at an accelerated pace due to a recent cleaning. Does anybody know of a skilled watch repairer in Chiang Mai?
elektrified
I recommend Charoensilp (sp?) on Thannon Thapae. They completely restored several 1930's-1960's Swiss watches for me. I can't say enough good things about them. All of the repairs include a 6 month warranty.
Orita
Yes, the watch makers at Charoensil on Thannon Thapae Road are highly recommended. I had two IWC watches serviced by them for a fraction of the price the official IWC agent in Bangkok quoted me, 14,000.- in Bangkok vs. 2,000.- at Charoensilp. They dismantle the movement in all 250 tiny parts and you can come and have a look. After cleaning and oiling, they put it all together and adjust the watch. If you like, you can have your watch polished as well. It usually takes 10 days for a complete service and longer if parts are needed. They have three watch makers. A very old guy, a middle aged guy and a young guy. I find the young guy the easiest to deal with, but be prepared, that non speak any English. elektrified
The youngest guy is the Master Craftsman, no doubt about that. The other guys give all the difficult jobs to him. A few days a month he goes to their shop in Bangkok and works there; that is why it takes him about 10 days to complete work - he is so busy. And yes, take a Thai with you if you have many questions and don't speak Thai because no one there speaks a word of English.
mcgriffith
I've had a few watches repaired there as well. Good people.

butterisbetter
Can anybody give me a landmark near to this store. The person who needs it suffers from impaired lung capacity so it's out of the question for him to walk the length of the Thapae Rd to find the place. Orita
If you come from Night Bazaar and walk down Tapae Road with the traffic flow for about 250 meters, Charoen Silp Watch Shop is on the left side, about 20 meters after Bangkok Bank. Look out for a fairly large shop with a Rolex - Omega sign. Go in, and the service area is just right in front of you. Hope this helps. toastie
I had my watch repaired at Charoenslip based on the advice of this forum. The watch is nothing fancy, a $150 Fossil I brought with me from Canada. They were great & turned it around in 2 days! My bill was 700 baht including parts. Oshie
Great information. Thanks. But I live in Koh Samui. I own a Rolex Datejust, and it needs a bit of repair. Looks like no place capable on this Island. Is there any way to contact that Chiang Mai dealer, and have my watch sent, and repaired? Thanks so much! Yes it is about 30 feet the other side of that little bridge that is so easy to miss If you get to AIS you have gone to far by about 100 feet. jonwilly
Gents if you have a Rolex then the official dealer in BKK is the ONLY place to have it repaired. I used a place on Thapae Rd left hand side past Bangkok bank and later water leaked past the winding knob. Only Rolex have the Specialised equipment and trained staff to do the job. Expensive and the only place in Thailand authorised to do the job. john
