When the airport first opened there was talk of an underground walkway linking the airport to the hotel.

Does the tunnel exist? and where is it located?

Not as far as I'm aware but you can cross a quiet road, walk through the ground floor of a multi storey car park, connect with a lift, then go to level 2 or maybe 3, and finally walk across a road bridge directly into the airport terminal.Takes about maybe 10 mins.

I looked for the underground walkway recently but saw only a (concealed) sign "airport hotel" on the airport train level. Presumably it may open next week when the regular train service starts. Meanwhile there is a shuttle service to the hotel from exit 4 on the arrivals level.

Update: the signs to the underground walkway are now uncovered but access is still blocked. From the look it shouldn't be much longer until it's opened. :)

I stayed at the Novotel hotel a few months after Suvarnabhumi first opened. I booked the hotel because I had an early flight and thought I could walk to and from the airport easily. The walkway wasn't open then because the hotel had only just opened. I stayed at the Novotel last year for the same reasons. The walkway still wasn't open 3 or 4 years after the hotel had opened! Even though I could see the airport a few hundred meters away, I had to wait for the shuttle bus. Earlier this year I stayed at another hotel only ten minutes away from the airport. Much cheaper and it took about the same time to drive to the airport as the shuttle bus took from the Novotel! I wouldn't hold your breathe for the walkway to open. There is now a lot more choice of accommodation around Suvarnabhum, than when it first opened.

What was the name of this hotel?

Thanks.

Hello Syd, I stayed at the Great Residence Suvarnabhumi Hotel. If you book from Agoda.com, you can book a single room for around 500 Baht including one way airport transfer. You can book direct on the hotels' website, but it is more expensive. I paid about 600 Baht for a two way transfer. I had to wait about twenty minutes for the car to pick me up from the airport, but it was only about ten minutes drive to the hotel. The hotel looked new and the rooms were clean. I arrived at 10pm and checked out at 5am, so I just wanted a place to take a shower and get a few hours sleep. You can read reviews of the hotel on Agoda and other websites. If I have an early flight and I am travelling alone I would probably stay there again. I don't see the point of paying 3000 plus Baht of my own money, to stay at the Novotel when I will only spend maybe five or six hours there.
