wpcoe
I have a DTAC prepaid SIM in my Nokia 3110c mobile. The phone is EDGE capable. Can I use the same SIM and connect to EDGE?
millionair
yes you can, but as its pre paid you will be charged for the downloads, better take unlimited monthly package. Edited August 21, 2010 by millionair
Jdietz
You will be charged at 2 baht per minute when using GPRS. If you call 1678 (customer service) and ask for a GPRS 1-day / 1-week / 1-month unlimited package, the amount will be deducted from your prepaid balance, and you can use GPRS for as long as you want. IIRC 1 day is around 50 Baht, 1 week around 300, 1 month around 900.
Tywais
As explained above, yes you can. I have been using DTAC EDGE pre-paid for the last few years for my home Internet access and have the 1-month unlimited plan which is charged automatically for me monthly (at my request). lomatopo
You can connect your phone to your PC via a (mini-)USB cable or bluetooth. I use Nokia PC Suite, but you don't have to. I used a 3110C for a few years, on One-2-Call, as back-up and it works well. Llareggub
AIS (sorry not TOT) used to do quite a good package for EDGE, I believe it was something like 500 Baht for 200 hours, and as mentioned earlier, you connect the phone to the PC and simply set it up as a modem. I was using a Nokia, and you need to download the LATEST Nokia Suite to get all of the functions. (we only got a telephone line where I am in the last year, so I couldn't even get dial up!) Nokia Suite here. http://europe.nokia....tware/pc-suites AIS link here http://www.ais.co.th/main/th/index.html Edited August 21, 2010 by Llareggub

It's an even better rate now..........650 baht per month for unlimited internet access
billd766
I use a Nokia 3110c for my EDGE connection through DTAC on a prepaid sim. I pay 200 baht + vat for 50 hours and get 50 hours free. It works out at 2 baht per hour or 48 baht per 24 hour day. Even if you are online 10 hours a day that is only 600 baht per month. I figure that if you are online (and not working) for more time than that perhaps you need to get a life. There is no limit to what I can download nor any extra charge other than to say that it does not work at warp factor speeds but it is reliable and can be used virtually anywhere in Thailand. lomatopo
I pay 200 baht + vat for 50 hours and get 50 hours free. The free 50 hours is for the first 3 months; still a good promotion (available until 30 Sep 2010) and a good rate after the first 3 months. Then I throw the Sim away and buy another cheaply (which may be tomorrow) and start all over again.

wpcoe
Sorry to be away for so long: life got in the way. :-) First, overseas travel, and then a herniated disc. Can I keep my current SIM, i.e. my current phone number, and use either pre- or post-paid EDGE? (I'm not sure how post-paid would work with a pre-paid SIM, but am open to anything!) Or, do I need to do SIM swapping: Insert one SIM when I want to use EDGE, and put back in the current SIM when I want to make/receive phone calls? jombom
Easier to buy another DTAC sim for 59 baht, dedicated to internet, and keep you phone for phone calls. Just my opinion.
