Trouble With New Us Ds - 160 Online Visa Form

Recommended Posts

I have tried repeatedly to complete the new US online visa form DS 160. Each time I get to the penultimate page, I am asked for a name/address of where I will be staying.

It is my brother's 65th birthday April 18th. The whole family wish to celebrate in Las Vegas. He and his family will from Canada where he works. My daughter/husband will fly from UK. I and my wife hope to fly from BKK if I can get past this stumbling block. I have emailed two help addresses for US embassy and had only automated replies. I have tried inserting addresses such as The Bellagio; such people as The manager to no avail. I do not know anyone in America who will vouch for me - a 67 yr old English retiree living quietly near Pattaya.

My dad lives in LV. All casinos have addresses and many people actually live at the hotel/casino. Have you tried entering:

3600 Las Vegas Boulevard South

Las Vegas, NV 89109-4339, United States

That is the address of the Bellagio.

Since you and family are planning on staying there, you can enter a family members name, since you will be actually residing there while in the states. Keep us posted.

Thanks for advice & will try what you suggest though unlikely we can afford to stay at Bellagio (it was the only hotel I knew.) What's your dad's name in case they won't accept 'The Manager, Bellagio, 3600 Las Vegas Boulevard South

Las Vegas, NV 89109-4339, United States.

Just use your name. or a family members name. Even if the reservation isn't made yet, you are technically not being deceitful, since your intent is to attend a birthday party for your brother in Las Vegas. It is a question on the Ds-160 too (reason for visit). The embassy just needs an address to know your wife's wherabouts while she is in the states.

Keep in mind that it may not be as easy as you think to get your wife to the US even on vacation. You not being a US citizen and knowing no one that can vouch for her is going to be your major barrier.

Thanks to people who have replied. My immediate problem is not being able to complete the DS - 160. I'd take my chances on an interview. I have tried over 20 times and get timed out or next page is refused. I've written by post to BKK embassy. I've tried telephoning for 2 days and no one answers. Think I'll just re-schedule the party to Canada, and write to the Mayor of Vegas and tell him why he can't have 12 Brits' dollars.

I did my Wife's application for US Visa in June and I had trouble a couple of times with it timing out, and I just kept trying again, and filling it in faster each time. I just wrote for the address of the hotel that I am not staying at now, Best Western Anahiem, and wrote the street it is on and phone number. I will say again, go as fast as you can, finally it all went through. I did it all in one night, try at night you might get better results submitting.

I am not a US citizen, nor have I ever lived in the States, and I had no problems with her getting approved, and I did not use my Aunt in LA, I just wrote what we were planning on doing, and how long we would be staying there for. The biggest problem I had was getting an interview date, I tried for three weeks online looking for a date, then finally there was a week free at the end of July.

When she went for her interview, she just told them why we were going, where we were staying, and they looked at the letter I wrote more than anything else. I supplied my Thai work permit, visa, bank account balance, and they did not even open them up, he looked at the first page skipped it and only questioned her on my letter.

Good Luck.

Actually, the OP not being a US Citizen living in Thailand probably helps his chances. A US citizen applying has to get over the preception they may be trying to get around the immigration process, which is not an issue for a non-citizen.

That is exactly what I thought, and was my case, we do not show we have any intention of staying there, just a vacation.

I have two friends who are living in the US, but do not work in the US, one is working in Malaysia, the other here in Thailand, and they both had trouble getting their girlfriend/wife tourist Visa's to the States, the US immigration said that they are coming to live, and are good prospects as "runners". They eventually got them but under strict conditions but the process for both of them took over a year. Both of them spend less than 6 months a year in the US, and the majority of their time working overseas.

My wife's was done and approved in a month, the longest part just getting an interview.

Thanks for all replies. Through the Bangkok Post page, a reader advised me to fill in DS - 160 early in the morning. So I did and it went through like a dream even with Manager of the Bellagio Hotel in place. It is a bit sad that the richest Nation on Earth cannot design/fund a more efficient web-site.
