Are You A Turtle Or Chameleon.

Featured Replies

Some posters here are like turtles. You bring your culture with you like a turtle has a shell.

This is Thailand and you will find what you are looking for.

The Japanese were winning and came to Thailand and found a willing ally. 4 years later the Americans came and they were winning and the Thais put them up in a palace in Bangkok right under the Japanese troops nose.

You want a good girl that is what you will find. You want to think all Thai women outside of Pattaya are good girls that is what you will find.

Do you speak Thai? Good. Where does your GF come from? Do you speak Issan?

How many languages are spoken in Thailand? Do you know?

Or did you come to Thailand with an open mind. Keeping your views to yourself. Are you able to treat people with respect regardless of their job or sexual orientation or color?

When you see things that upset you do you respond? When you see small children kicking a dog or an old fat Falang with an attractive young lady do you scowl?

Your Thai friends may not speak your language but they can read your actions.

Thais will give you what you want, all things being equal, even if it is a blatent lie or an impossible conclusion.

So which are you? An unbiased observer or a person who likes to point out western values and their superiority?

I came to Thailand from Florida. A lot of people from New York retire in Florida and one continually hears this is not the way it’s done in NY. Florida natives call the northern people snow birds. One of their favorite songs is, “If it’s snow bird season why can’t we shoot em?”

I came here with a totally blank mind, l cannot pick up the language but use my eyes and posture to convey my feelings and thoughts to Thai friends, strangers or family which l am glad to say they try to understand with great results. Whether a Thai picks rice, sweeps the street or is hi-so, all the same to me and receive the same respect, same if l were in my home land. :)

As long as you don't pick up a Thai wife you'll be fine.

Its always wonderful to believe that our body language/ eye contact will make us entirely acceptable in our new country of choice.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way for the immigrants back home, or us here....

adapt.................U think 2 much :D

transam,

couldn't you just shut the farck up?

I was enjoying a marky thread without response for more than 40 minutes!

YOU spoiled it!

Turtle or chameleon? Are those the only options of reptile? I was thinking I was more like one of these...

I just want to go somewhere warm in the winter and be left alone. And, if annoyed I'm likely to bite.

I'm that lizard I guess, the shell was too heavy. Dropped it a long time ago

"dao" also has other meanings
