Heart Check

Featured Replies

I'm 38 years old and don't have any health problems that I know of. I have exercised my whole life and been running short distances regularly for the past five or six years. However I've made only very slow improvement with the running and always found it hard going. I bought a wrist running monitor a while ago and it has caused me some confusion about my heart rate. It seems quite often to be higher than I feel it should be. Yesterday my run was particularly laboured and I seemed not to be able to take full deep breaths. I do tend to push quite hard when doing any exercise and would like to try another half marathon some time and work towards a full marathon. With this in mind I figure it might be an idea to get a full check just to be safe. I checked online and Bangkok Pattaya do what looks like a fairly comprehensive check at the promotional price of 4820 baht. I just wondered if anyone had used a similar service and what your opinions are of such a check.

Thanks

Does that test include an exercise stress test (EST)? At 38 years old, may be a little early for an EST, but maybe to put your mind at ease, do one.

I've used Samitivej Sukhumvit (BKK) for their Wellness 2 checkup, a bit pricey at 10K baht, but it's been company re-imbursable/covered on insurance. It is a well choreographed examination, nurse escorting you from one exam to the next.

It does include the EST as well as a CT scan. The details are here:

Very similar to the one you had minus a couple of test.

I have Bupa but I doubt it will be covered. I guess I can only enquire though.

I think I will book it tomorrow for asap. It's always better to be checked when there is any doubt.

Maybe Bupa will at least cover some of it for you. Hope it all turns out well.

For the specific concerns you mention, stress test is key.

I have not seen any specific feedback on BPH's check-ups but in many other hospitals the quality of the review of the findings is poor (the tests themselves are done fine). So be sure to read over the report yourself in detail, and to sollow up on any abnormal findings.

Had the test today and all was well. I was most happy with the EST, as they ramped it up until I was running, which surprised me. The doctor gave a good overview and answered all my questions. It may have been a waste of money but at least I have a degree of peace of mind. I can now do my 10km organised run tomorrow without concern.
