Five M79 attacks at Army camp in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI: -- Unknown assailants fired five grenades with the M-79 grenade launchers at the Fifth Special Warfare Regiment in Chiang Mai's Mae Rim district, Third Army Region commander Lt General Thanongsak Apirakyothin said on Friday.

The attacks happened Thursday's night. Two of the five grenades exploded on the ground of the military camp but there were no casualties reported. The other three grenades were duds.

Thanongsak said he suspected the attacks were coordinated since several launcers were used in the simultaneous firings of the five grenades. Based on the projectile of the grenades, the launch site might locate about 50 meters from the camp.

The CM M79 shooters are cowards. Grow up boys.

Agreed; and what exactly do they aim to achieve by their actions? If such attacks result in numerous deaths; does that represent a success to them? And if so, how do they rank this in their overall "cause"?

erm.........M79s ??

If they did injure or kill anyone it would be the children of Thailand! Young recruits who are force to join the army....Very sad people who do this sort of thing.

Three out of five are duds. Either learn arming procedure or someone needs to read the "use by" date prior to purchase or theft, which ever is applicable.

some expats need to observe more closely to learn how the Thais interact on these things.

firing off warning shots like this and making seemingly ineffective attacks are frequent in political conflicts in thailand. they have a meaning for thais.

The main point is unfortunately not if the grenades kill or not. Success is achieved by the terror and intimidation the act impose on the poeple of Thailand regardless
